Looking to replace processor

Looking for a solution to my current problem, a gateway GT4010 desktop: I bought a processor and want to know if it is compatible with my computer. The specs are: AMD Athlon 64 processor 3500+, socket type 939, 2.2GHz, 2000MHz FSB, 512KB L2 cache. The only difference with the new one is it has HT 2000 instead of 2000MHz FSB. What does HT mean and would it be OK for me to install it. I found out that this processor can be upgraded but to what? Where do I look for this info? General question: If I suspect that the onboard video is not working, do I have to disable it before installing a new video card? How do I disable it there is nothing on the monitor? Will it know to go directly to the new video card?

Actually with AMD the HT means HyperTransport(different from HyperThreading)! It should be ok to install! And with the graphics card, yes the machine should automatically pick up the graphics card and send video to it. After you install the card, go in bios and set the default display adapter properly.

Athlon? 64 3000+ ~ 4000+ Athlon FX FX 55 ~ FX59 Athlon 64 X2 4200+ ~ 4800+ The above processors are supported on your board, i think you may have bought the bottom one, although check the model number as the HT means hypertheading, which is AMD version of the Intel Core Duo, which means the processor can manage two or more processor stressing programmes at once, but you should always purchase a suitable heatsink and fan to cool the processor. As regards the onboard graphics, there will be a setting in the bios (to get to it,F2 or Del on boot up) which will be in the advanced cmos settings menu or similair and look for words to the effect 'primary graphics controller' and set this at either pci or agp depending on your model graphics card. Save settings and exit the bios for a re boot.

The tiny light on my Gateway GT4010 is flickering a light yellow/orange color. It used to be green. Can you tell me what that means. I looked here on your site and can't find an answer. I am scared...

If the power light is blinking amber - The problem could be that the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.

Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).
Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board.
If you have a surge protector, turn it off for 30 seconds, then back on.
If you don't have one (you should on any expensive electronics to avoid them from blowing when there is a storm) turn off your computer, then unplug it from the wall for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Gateway GT4010 boots then starts beeping and shuts off

First check your power supply section and check your power fan that is running properly. if ok then the suspected area is your processor section. please check it if its collar fan nor running properly then clean up or change that. and the other advice is please check your processor pin which are too tiny. be careful about these.

Gateway gt4010, wont power on.

The fan turning off will be the cause of the PC shutting down.
This could be caused by a faulty fan or bad connection to motherboard.
1. try reseating the fans power plug on the motherboard
2. if that doesn't help, try replacing with new fan.
3. if that doesn't work then most likely motherboard problem

Why didn't Gateway recall GT4010?

Gateway, Or the "cow computers" require you to update and pay for ALL drivers necessary to keep your computer working. As far as a motherboard is concerned, there is a part number on the board and you can go to many sites to buy a used or new motherboard, but, and this is IMPORTANT, you need to know the type of SOCKET your processor is plugged into. Your processor is made one way, but with different pin configurations.
Your "posts" are messages from other people complaining about Gateway, they're not fix actions. Hopefully this helps. My e-mail

Gateway

The problem is inside the CPU... Open the case and check the voltage of the battery, a small button cell, it should read as 3V.

Check also the heatsink of your processor it might need dusting.

Now try turning it on...

Get back to me and tell me more about it.... ;)

My computer problem

Remove and refit memory sticks, as you mention no beeps, so the memory may need re seating. From there it could be a processor or bios fault not starting up thr first 64KB of memory to boot windows
