Question about Maytag MER5775Q Electric Kitchen Range

Hot Surface Light Stays On

I have a maytag range with the model number of MERH752BAB. All burners still work, but the Hot Surface Light stays on even though the burners are cooled down. The range is only a couple years old. Is there a sensor that needs to be replaced? If it is a sensor, is there a diagram with instructions for replacement? Do you know what the part number would be? I cannot find the product in your list below so please the product number in my notes. I just had to select something to get it to go through.
Thanks, Keith.

You do have a top burner sensor that has failed. the hard thing is to figure out which one. most of these units have a 5 year part warranty, but you have to pay for an authorized servicer replace it for you.
if you want to figure it out yourself, you will have to find which of the wires, from the burner sensor, controls the indicator light. its not hard as it is usually the smaller one. each burner has a sensor and if you are certain you can work with the electricity on, its just a process of elimination.
unplug the unit from the wall, then take off the wire from 1 burner at a time, tape it off, to prevent shorting to ground, then plug back in and see if the light has gone out.
then you can order the new sensor, but on some models, you have to get the whole burner and sensor assembly.

Hot surface indicator light stays on despite the burners being off overnight

There is a switch in the burner assembly that senses the burner is hot. It could be the sensor switch is bad. It also could be the surface switch itself that has a welded contact that is causing the hot surface light to stay on. i would look at the thermal switch on the burner itself first.

Coil burner stays on even when in the off position on my maytag range.

The switch control for the burner has gone bad.

If you can get me the model and serial numbers from the tag on the range and tell me which coil is having the trouble I can assist with repair part numbers and tell you how to repair if needed.

Hot indicator surface light will not turn off on maytag smooth top oven cre9600bce. always stays red even when oven or cook top not in use. What part is needed.

I had the same problem, but I found out it was only when one particular burner was turned on. I waited for the problem burner to cool, then took the fist of my hand and tapped on the burner itself and the light goes out every time. Works like a charm..probably a loose connection with that one burner.

GE EVOLUTION Glass top. The hot surface(Glass top)

Individual burners, located directly under the cooktop glass, contain a temp sensor which lights up the hot surface lamp when they sense a hot condition. If the light stays on after all burners are cool, one of the sensors has shorted out. The sensors are an integral part of the burner, so the offending burner must be replaced to solve your constant on hot light.

Surface unit indicator light is always on

One set of contacts in a surface unit switch is "welded" together, causing the burner indicator (pilot) light to remain on even when all burners are shut off.
With power disconnected to the range, remove the back cover behind the switches and pull one of the wires going from a surface unit switch to the indicator lamp. Make sure the bare wire is not touching anything and reconnect power. If the light goes out (and still goes on when the other burners are turned on) you found the bad switch. If light still on, repeat the procedure with another one of the burner switches (reconnecting the first) until you find which switch is the bad one. (most often it is the burner you use the most, generally the right front burner) If you post your full model number and tell me which switch it is, I can look up the part number for you.

If it's the light that indicated the element is on, replace the switch. If it's the light that indicated the element is hot, replace the element.

Hot surface indicator

The component that controls the hot surface light is part of the element. If there is a light for each element you just replace that element. If there's one for the whole surface or each side you'll have to figure out which element is causing the problem.
