Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional

2 XPs!! Hiya, I tried to resolve a hardware problem by installing XP with sp 3 on top of the Current Xp but I've ended up with 2 XPs runing and everytime I boot up, it asks me which one do I want to load. One of them is new and blank and the other one has my stuff on it. I want to uninstall the newly installed one, can anyone tell me how I can do it?? Thanks

the two xps are on the same partition... the second one is in a folder called "windows.0"... also there is NO Boot.ini tab! why is that??!

  • mightyreal Feb 20, 2009

when you do that it just puts another copy of windows onto the pc - that was how I ended up where I am now! The msconfig menu doesn't actually have a Boot.ini tab! It only has General. System.ini, win.ini, services and Setup.

Also both the windows seem to be on the same partition on the PC...

Click start > run
and in the box that appears type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter / click ok.

On the box that appears click the 'boot.ini' tab and look at the text in the small window at the top.

Remove the boot entry for the installation of windows you dont want to boot from.

Then find the folder you installed windows to and delete it.

Right click 'my computer'- 'manage'- 'disk management'- Than under the 'action' tab select 'all tasks' than select 'delete partation'.  Just make sure you click the partation that has the copy of XP on it that you want to delete.

I am unsure if you are able to gain acess to the copy with "all your stuff", but if you are than safe it to a cd or a thumb drive (walmart $5). After saving your data, I suggest you reinstall windows, all you have to do is put the windows cd in the cd rom and restart your computer. That way you format your whole hard drive and start from scratch.

Let me know how this works.

I need a product key for my haier windows xp service pack 3 home edition

License keys for Windows XP, any service pack, can be tricky to recover or restore. For a temporary solution you can try using the linked program. KMSPico 10 0 9 Final By TeamDaz Now you'll need to be careful while installing the trial version so that you don't install any of the bundled bloatware.

You could also try to rollback your serice pack to SP 1 or 2 through the Windows Update option under the Control Panel. It may be that your key is only valid through SP 2, which is fairly common and a problem I encountered often when I was working on XP machines back in 2005 and 2006.

Have Windows XP, Home Edition. Cannot install Service Patch 3,

Beethoven 9 is not part of the service pack. Go to microsoft and download the service pack as is. If you don't have a fully registeredwindows program, you will have problems until you register it. I've downloaded all service packs and updates for the past 7 years on different levels of windows without any problems. You must have them registered to prove you have an authentic purchased program, not something copied from someone elses setup disks.

Still no joy... :(

Do you know how to do command line check for bootcfg and windows installs? Also typing "msconfig" in the Run bar will show boot script. If you put the new Windows on a separate partition then you can just delete that. Steve  I am running out for a quick f2f job but will return shortly:)

Not Installing XP SP3 Updates Given By Microsoft KB 936929.

if you don't want to install those updates you should have switch off your automatic updates. the problem is the your computer might not be compaitble with the update which was sent to you.XP SP3 have a higher system and hardware requirements than xp sp2. in order to resolve your problem you need to run your xp sp2 and press repair instead of format in this way it can return to your original system. you can also try the system restore press the start, all programs look for the system tools then system restore check what date you installed this sp3 then select the day before you installed this in order for you to return to your original operating system. hoping that this will help you, expecting your positive response.
