Gateway laptop will not power on

Lights are on but the laptop (gateway model MT6730) will not power up at all. The following lights are on:
- Blue circle light around power button
- What looks like a signal light near the scoller
- A lock with an A inside it near the scoller
- Blue light and red light on front of laptop

The lock light seems suspect to me as I have a 2 year who may have been pressing buttons. Help! We just bought this a couple months ago.

Computer was working fine until I shut it down. Now, the power & charge lights come on, the fan starts, and the hard drive and CD icons briefly light up. (Hard drive is spinning).
That's it! No beeps, no post, no display.
I have changed the memory, re-seated the CPU, removed the main battery & CMOS battery. Still doing the same thing.
I suspect either the bios has become corrupted or the motherboard is bad.
Could possibly be a bad CPU....
Anyone know what the problem could be with this model. Seems that they all have this issue in common.
Also, does anyone know if the bios is linked to the hard drive? I know this would be unusual but I have heard of it in the past. Maybe part of the bios info is on the hard drive and the hard drive is bad ????

Sounds like to me, that you do have power going to your computer(other wise your lights wouldnt be on), but that your hard drive is dead.

You can take it to a computer shop and have them replace your hard drive.

Power light blinking on nv53a gateway

Your Gateway laptop comes with a series of LED lights that alert you to the state of your computer. You'll notice there are blue, purple and red lights that either blink or display solidly. Each light, blinking or solid, has a different meaning. The blue blinking light on your laptop indicates that it is in Standby mode. Your laptop goes into Standby when you close its lid without shutting down the computer. To turn this light off, you'll need to take the computer out of Standby mode, and if you want to ensure that the blinking blue light does not return, shut down the computer after each use.

Open the lid of your Gateway laptop and press the power button. Once Windows loads, enter your password if required. The blue light will no longer be blinking because the computer is no longer in Standby mode. Shut the laptop off when you finish using it rather than simply closing the lid to stop the blue light from blinking again. Click "Start" from your Windows desktop and click "Shut down." Change your computer's power settings to keep if from going into Standby mode when you close the lid if you'd rather not shut down your computer every time you use it. Click "Start" and click "Control Panel." Click "System and Security" and then click "Power Options." Click "Choose what closing the lid does" from the list of options on the left side of the window. Select "Hibernate" from the drop-down lists under "On Battery" and "Plugged In." Click "Save Changes." Your laptop will now bypass Standby mode when you close the lid and it will enter Hibernate mode instead. Hope it helps.

Gateway Mt6730 starts up and then message comes up CPU Fan Overheating and shuts down in 5 seconds. Cleaned the fan but still does this.

Hi,

Try cleaning the air vents too with a can of compressed air as dust can block these vents causing the CPU to overheat. The vents can be located at the back or sides of the laptop. Also a good idea is check and make sure that the CPU fan itself is working and spinning up.

Regards.

Gatweway lap top button light up, but wont turn on

I'm afraid this sounds suspiciously like a motherboard problem. It would help to know what model etc, as some Gateway & EMachine model laptops have had extended warranties due to motherboard issues, or just go to Gateway.com and research it yourself.

After shutdown of gateway laptop blue power button stays lit.....

Hi this sounds like your computer is in hibernation mode as opposed to shut down mode. Could you check and see as if running Vista many people assume that clicking on the brown power type selection under start that they are shutting down where as this actually only hibernation mode and clicking on the little arrow to the right of this and selecting shutdown is the way to go.
I hope this helps
