Sunbeam mixmaster jammed, will not tilt back - Sunbeam 2346 Heritage MixMaster Series Stand Mixer

    The best Solution was given by artlizg and Dennis H. We tried the one which recommended sticking the screwdriver in the neck hole and it did not work for us. Removing the torpedo shaped knob, the dial and the small screws that hold the plate in front of the motor worked best. The screw that needs to be tightened is very small and actually sits facing up towards the top of the mixer. Be sure you have a very small wrench on hand! I also had trouble with the button being too stiff before, but no longer! Thanks, I love this site!

That picture looks like you are using the Heritage model, which is the one I just fixed for myself.

I had to remove two parts in order to get access to the piece that was causing the problem:
1) The "torpedo" shaped knob that sticks out from the mixer speed dial;
2) The speed dial itself

Both of these pieces clip-in, and can be removed with a screwdriver by pressing in on one of the hooks that hold them in place.

After these two pieces are removed look for a small washer right below the motor (it is sitting on top of the upper portion of a screw) -- in my case this washer had come loose; I tightened it with a 1/4 size wrench (you can also tighten it by hand to release the tilt, it will probably become loose in the future if you don't tighten it further, but if you don't have the necessary tools this will at least allow you to get your tilt unlocked).

On another note, after tightening this washer I also noticed that the tilt release had become easier to use -- previously I found that I had to press the tilt release button very hard to get the tilt to unlock.

I hope this helps!

    Your information was EXTREMELY helpful! Thank you SO much!!

    One clarification I wanted to make was the speed dial was easiest to remove with a flat head screwdriving wedged in between the metal and the dial, rather than through the middle of the dial. I ended up breaking one of the clips going through the middle. I didn't understand why I needed to remove the "torpedo" looking portion, but it made the whole process easier to remove the speed dial portion and when putting the speed dial piece back on.

    Tightening the nut might have been easier if I had removed the all of the screws from the back, but I didn't have the nerve. I tightened the nut as tight as I could, then put fingernail polish on the grooves of the screw in order to prevent the screw from becoming loose again.

    Thank you again for your clear notes, it was definitely a godsend!

Sunbeam Heritage Mixmaster Won't Tilt back

Hi

Most of them have a button to push that releases the mixer head to tip back. Sometimes the buttons stick and will not release. That picture looks like you are using the Heritage model.

You have to remove two parts in order to get access to the piece that was causing the problem:

1) The "torpedo" shaped knob that sticks out from the mixer speed dial;
2) The speed dial itself

Both of these pieces clip-in, and can be removed with a screwdriver by pressing in on one of the hooks that hold them in place.

After these two pieces are removed look for a small washer right below the motor (it is sitting on top of the upper portion of a screw) -- in my case this washer had come loose; tighten it with a 1/4 size wrench (you can also tighten it by hand to release the tilt, it will probably become loose in the future if you don't tighten it further, but if you don't have the necessary tools this will at least allow you to get your tilt unlocked).

On another note, after tightening this washer you may also notice that the tilt release had become easier to use -- previously you may have found that you have to press the tilt release button very hard to get the tilt to unlock.

Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Sunbeam Mixmaster 250W tilt stuck

Here are the steps repeated from bove with photos
  1. Unplug machine from power
  2. Pry of the dome shaped cover at the back - putting a flathead screwdriver under it witll work, note the plastic prongs on the inside of it below10_23_2012_11_25_02_pm.jpg
  3. Get a couple of screwdrivers to hold out th e prongs on the speed control ring and then prise it of by intserting a srewdiver in front of the ring
  4. 10_23_2012_11_27_27_pm.jpg
  5. Now you can tighten the nut on the vertical bolt at the lower inside of the mixer using a small screwdriver to push the nut around till it is tight and then add some loctite (or nail polish) to stop it coming undone.
  6. 10_23_2012_11_45_32_pm.jpg
  7. The tilt mechanism should now work. To reassemble align the off indicator on the top of the machine with the OFF on the speed control ring and push it back on. Push on the dome shaped cover and you are finished.

Sunbeam Mixmaster Heritage Series Model 2350 speed problem

The speed control on the back is simply a variable resistance potentiometer, the same thing that controls the volume on older amplifiers. The output current to the motor is supplied by the printed circuit board in the bottom of the unit. This allows gradual increases in speed to avoid over-torquing the motor on speedup. Even the poshy-posh-posh mixers do this.

At least it still works. The most common problem is the cheap plastic drive gears that strip out with a mild cookie dough, this jams the beaters together and requires burial-at-dumpster.

Sunbeam Mixmaster Heritage series

I hope this helps. I found on mine that the rear screw on the "neck" had become slighty loosecousing the release to not fully disingage. I had to remove the dome shaped cap in the middle of the speed control knob, pops off fairly easy, to gain access to the nut to tighten it. Hard part was trying to hold the screw head still while I used a small screw driver and small hammer to tap the nut tight, very limited space between the "neck" and motor body.
