It should be on the motherboard. Looks like a small round hearing aid battery. Hope this helps.

Toshiba satellite l505d-s5007 Toshiba satellite l505d-s5007 laptop. Need jumper or dipswitch identification to short out or switch to the bios password.

I don't think that's available on laptops; I've never seen it on Toshiba models. There is usually a small battery to save BIOS info and keep the clock going when the main battery is out. It's either under the keyboard or near the memory or wireless card compartment. Remove the main battery and leave the adapter unplugged. Open the compartments and look for a a connector with just a red and black wire connected to it - if you see it going to a coin cell, that's the one you want. Unplug it and wait ten seconds. Plug it in and put everything back together. If you got the right connector, your computer will probably go straight to BIOS and ask you to set the time and date.

I have dell CPX H500GT and lost BIOS password

Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.

When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.

Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper

The most common way that most of us know on how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing a battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard. Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. So by cutting off the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased.

cmos battery Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computer the location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment.

hope this helps

I Bought A laptop at a pawn shop . its a 7730 the person who sold it had a bios password code . How can I reset it ? I need to update everthing on it but can't

Remove a small coin sized CMOS battery to store all BIOS settings along with the password. To reset the password, unplug the PC, open the cabinet and remove the CMOS battery for approx. 15-30 minutes and then put it back. It'll reset all BIOS settings as well as the password and you'll need to re-enter all settings.

Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computerthe location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment.

If it fails, then try to remove the cmos battery for at least one hour.

The location of the jumpers or dipswitches may vary; however, here are some locations of the jumpers / dipswitches.
  1. On the edge of the motherboard - Most jumpers are located on the side of the motherboard for easy accessibility, verify by looking at all visible edges of the motherboard.
  2. By the CMOS battery - Some manufactures will place the jumper to clear the CMOS / BIOS password by the actual CMOS battery.
  3. By the processor - Some manufactures will place the jumpers by the processor of the computer. However, note that in some cases these jumpers will be to change the processor and not the password.
  4. Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computer the location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment.
  5. Other visible location - While it is possible that the jumpers / dipswitches may not be in a visible location, most manufactures try to make things easier by placing the jumpers / dipswitches in another visible location.
  6. Jumpers may also be found underneath or allongside the memory modules.
I hope this helps but suggest that the manufacturers web site or your instruction manual, may have the answer.

Bios password problem on a hannstar j mv4 94v

you will need to get to the jumpers for bios to be able to reset the password or remove the password, this is easy with a desktop computer, but if you have a laptop but you think you guys can open the laptop and locate the bios or cmos jumpers then go ahead.

On the computer motherboard locate the BIOS clear / password jumper or dipswitch and change its position. Once this jumper has been changed, turn on the computer and the password should be cleared. Once cleared, turn the computer off and return the jumper or dipswitch to its original position.

Battery location

hmmm..those are truly hard to find, the clips...

also, the bios password can be accessed on startup by using F2, then you'll see that option inside the bios setup.

those batteries are usually inside, under the bottom plastic panel. some others are under the palm rest, either way, you need to open up the whole unit.

Bios password

ACER ASPIRE 5630 BIOS FIX
I had the same problem, with a friend's laptop, an acer aspire 5630.
I unscrewed everything I could but failed to find the cmos battery
I reset the password by shorting out jumper 3 on the motherboard.
this is to be found under the memory modules which can be accessed by removing the largest of the access plates found on the bottom of the unit.
(you may want to ground yourself first in case of static)
Pull gently outwards on the two retaining clips at the edges of the memory module(s), this should allow them to spring up for easy removal.
jumper 3 looks like two gold interlocking number threes - this design makes it easy to short out by touching lightly with a metal object - I used a small phillips screwdriver.
Good luck
Neil

SONY VAIO CMOS BATTERY LOCATION

Correction...

The CMOS battery is located under the system board, and is not accessible from under the keyboard.

The keyboard has to be removed in order to change the CMOS batter, (another reason why I don't like Sony laptops.)
