You may want to get rid of it before it does start a fire...it sounds like the heating element is getting too hot or your limit switches have gone one allowing the element to get too hoy

GE places a wiring diagram inside the control panel on most dryers. It should be there as long as another service tech didn't remove it at some point.

Electric dryer - Replace timer ? GE DDE7206MCLWH

Hi,
Here is the best way I have found to get replacement parts.

You can find parts for your unit by doing a search for “appliance parts”.
Once you get the results of the search, pick a site and when it comes up it will usually ask for the model number of your unit.
Enter your model number and you will then get a page with exploded views and a parts menu.
Find the part you need and then order it.
Check a few different sites to be sure that you are getting the best pricing.
Most sites can have the part to you in a couple of days.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Thanks for using Fixya!!

Ge gas dryer starts hot but goes cold after a few mintues of running

more likely than not the gas coils that operate the gas valve have gone bad.. if it fires at all the safetys, etc are good..
if i had model number i could be more specific as to how to get to them and part #'s..
hope this helps,
best of luck,
