When updating, Windows will automatically create a restore point so that if you have such problems you can back out of the update install. Go to Control Panel > System > and in the left upper pane click on System Protection. In the resulting pop-up click the button that says "System Restore" this will launch another pop-up... click Next on the lower right and you will be presented with a list of Restore Points with dates and descriptions...choose the one that coincides with when your problems began. If you don't see it listed, click the check box lower left to show more restore points. Click Next and follow any other instruction. Afterwards if you wish you can go ahead and redo the updates, but do them individually and try your scanner between them to verify it still works. Good luck, hope this helps!

Brother MFC-6800 scanner isn't recognized in XP

I think that's a defective scanner. Common issue, everything works but scanner not even detected as a device in xp. But printer detects fine. If you don't see any ghost or uninstalled drivers for the scanner i suspect hard ware failure. Probably some internal cabling or connection within the scanner itself.

hi jerry,

thank you for using fixya.

the issue was cause by a recent update on your computer, I just had an update for my Adobe acrobat reader for DPFs and somehow my scanner acted up on my, almost like what you are experiencing.

without doing any uninstallation, i performed a system restore to remove the current update i have for my adobe acrobat read for PDF's, and that's it, after removing the system restore and the updates, it worked like it did like the past months.

here is how you do system restore.

Before you open the System Restore console, you may want to saveyour work and close all programs since System Restore requires you torestart your computer.
There are two ways to access System Restore – through Help and Support or through your All Programs folder.
Through Help and Support:
1.
Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
2.
Under Pick a Task, click Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
3.
Follow the instructions on the wizard.
Through the All Programs menu:
1.
Click Start.
2.
Point to All Programs.
3.
Point to Accessories.
4.
Point to System Tools.
5.
Click System Restore.
6.
Follow the instructions on the wizard.
Creatinga restore point can be useful any time you anticipate making changes toyour computer that are risky or might make your computer unstable. Ifsomething goes wrong, you select the restore point you just created andWindows XP undoes any system changes made since that time.

From this link.

hope this helps,

regards,

voodoo

hello, after phoning Epsomregarding this problem, they explained that part of the printer driver had become corrupted and was somehow buried in my computer programs, and that I should contact the computer manufacturer or Microsoft. I contacted HP and the gentleman walked me through a system restore and the old driver still works. I'm a bit of a sitting duck though cause I can't use system restore for after that date or my printer willl stop working.

Hp 3055 and sp3

There are 2 ways you can remove it. The easiest is to go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Make sure Restore my computer to an earlier time radio button is selected and click Next. Bold calendar dates indicate available restore points. Choose the date that you installed SP3 and time if it has more than one, click Next and it will restore it to the way things were prior to the update.
Alternatively, Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs and scroll down to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and highlight it then click Remove on the right. I prefer System Restore but that's me.
If you feel this helped you, please help me out and rate the solution accordingly. Thanks for using fixya.com!

Scanner portion

The easiest thing to do is a system restore; it will restore all of your computers settings to a point before the software was changed. Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore.

Folow the onscreen prompts and select a day prior to the day the scanner stopped working. It will reboot, then restore. Then your computer should be just like it was.

Epson Stylus photo 810/ink jet printer

Hi Alan

I expect by now you've solved this problem - but just in case .....

The waste ink "protection" counter has exceeded its limit and needs resetting. You can do this easily by using the SSC utility - download from:

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

Install it, and double click the ssc printer icon in the bottom right corner (System Tray). Choose Configuration and set your printer type (810), then close the ssc window. Now right click the ssc icon in the sytem tray and choose Protection Counter. You should see that the current count is above the limit; then choose reset to set it to zero. Turn the printer off then back on again. This will stop the lights flashing and restore normal operation.
