If you are proficient at working on these machines, you should be able to get a replacement display from your local Delonghi agent to fit yourself. The fault is likely to be in the onboard driver or the display itself. Simply replacing it should sort it.
Your component has digital technology which has a tendency to 'lock up'.A reset solution for your problem is to simply unplug it for 5 minutes and plug it back in.That should fix your problem. If it is easier to pull the circuit breaker, that is fine also.Simply turning it off will not work as it needs the power supply completely removed.Digital components are defined mainly as things which are programmable such as ovens and refrigerators with LCD or LED displays, thermostats,DVR's,answer machines,TV's and much more. Some things which are not exactly programmable but can be reset the same way are video game consoles, modems, battery operated devices, telephones. If it is battery powered, simply disconnect it from the battery or remove the batteries for 5 minutes then retry it.If you have any questions or need more help, just comment here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.I really encourage responses so I can follow up properly as I know where you stand and asking someone else restarts all the explaining because we cannot see other 'Expert's' responses.Good luck,Greg
NEWS FLASH!! A replacement screen IS available. The original part has been discontinued but the display for the Magic Comfort works. The only difference is the color. The original display was orange and this one is green but IT WORKS perfectly. I just replaced it myself. The part number and description are "0332817 Pcb, DISPLAY MAGIC COMFORT". I ordered it from Saeco Outlet @ 800-933-7876
Assuming that the integrated circuit that provides the signals for the display is not defective (those circuits are quite reliable), the following may help.
LCD readouts have a very thin conductive film on the rear glass that is often contacted electrically by a silicon strip with fine wires embedded it which are used as connectors to the circuit board.
Both sides of this contact strip is sandwiched between the display thin-film contacts and mating contacts on the printed circuit board.
This is strictly a pressure-type connector and they are easily misaligned if not rigidly held.
The only way to correct this is to reposition the silicon conductor strip, possibly multiple times, to try to get all segments of the display working.
An instrument technician is probably the best choice to do this kind of work but the labor may be costly.
