Re: Whirlpool duet WFW8400TB00 washer wont spin
It appears your motor controller has failed in this instance.
For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing. I recommend both sites because ...
FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.
PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information. RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.
If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell. In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.
Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.
If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

This is a fault code but the F flashes alternately with a number or another character depending on the model of the machine to indicate the fault code number. Since the fault happened at the last two minutes of the cycle, it is likely associated with a drain problem and the fault code is likely F02 or F21 depending on the machine's model.
the three screws attaching the lower front access panel to the cabinet
then pull the panel down and off the cabinet. You can prop up the bottom
front edge of the washer or cushion and lean it against the wall to
access and remove the screws more easily. Once the panel is off, you'll find a knob which is the drain filter. Turn the knob counterclockwise to remove the filter and clean it. You may need to lay a towel under the filter to catch residual water before removing it. Manually drain the water, by gravity, from the tub if significant amount of water is still present by placing the end of the drain hose as low as possible into a basin or bucket.
Click on the link below if cleaning the drain filter doesn't solve the problem.
Does the washer spin on rinse and drain cycles ok? If it does spin but won't drain, the problem is the plasic impeller in your drain pump. This model is a direct drive unit with a reversing motor that runs one direction for agitate, but reverses to spin the tub and operate the drain pump. So if it spins but DOES NOT drain, it's the drain pump, but if it doesn't spin or drain, than it's probably a lid switch. Also the tub to pump hose or pump discharge hoses may be clogged with something. If your mechanically apt, you can do this repair yourself and save a service charge. The pump runs about 30 dollars or so and is really easy to change out. Check out Youtube videos on Whirlpool washer repairs, they will show you everything to do. Yes, I said Whirlpool, because Roper is built by Whirlpool.
The 5d (or Sd) error code indicate that the control detected a suds lock or overdose of detergent during the drain or spin phases of the cycle. This is usually caused by overuse of detergent. It can also be caused by using regular detergent instead of HE (High Efficiency) detergent. After the excessive suds dissipate, you can normally clear the fault code and then run a drain/spin to finish the load of laundry. If you detect no excessive suds, this fault code could be caused by a clogged drain system or a failed water level pressure switch. hope this helps....
You washed something from your pockets. coins, marbles, I even removed a nail clipper before. Use a flashlight and try to look through the holes. If you can get front panel off. Put light under tub and see if you can see something that way.
You said, washer is full of water and will not spin. You hear the lid switch
clicking. When you start it on spin cycle and hear a hum, the tub moves a
couple of inches and then stops...shortly after it shuts off.
Some reasons this may happen Washer won’t drain or spinn 1. Is the drain hose clogged, or the end of the drain hose more than 72 inches (183 cm) above the floor? 2. Is the lid open? ............Also the lid switch can be faulty!! The lid must be closed during operation. 3. Is there excessive sudsing? Always measure detergent. Follow manufacturer’s directions. 4 If you have very soft water, you might need to use less detergent.
Sounds to me like the lid switch can be faulty!!Then it acts like the lid is open. Huuum
