Question about Whirlpool GS6NBEXR Side by Side Refrigerator
Inside the main ref compartment there is a box which shows two green numbers (showing cool level for freezer/ref) It appears there is no power as both digital numbers are black and the main light bulb in the ref doesnt work either. I pulled the bulb out and checked it in another light and it works???
It seems to still be cooling but I just noticed the problem a few hours a go. It also makes a rattle noise when I open the door? Any of you professionals out there have any ideas for me?

I replaced a circuit board that is in the white box at the lower left rear of the fridge. You will need to remove the cardboard cover, then there is two screws to loosen the box. The circuit board is inside. There is a white tab that sticks up push it sideways and it will pop right out. Put the plugs in the new board and pop it back in and put everything back together. Be sure the wires are routed so they do not contact the compressor.
If you want to test it first get a voltmeter one probe to CN1, the white wire, and the other to CN2, yellow wire with red stripe, there should be 120 volts. If not, or when the door is open it drops replace the board.
I did not have a voltmeter but it seems everybody that had a problem the fridge was 4 to 5 years old. So I bit the bullet, around $90.00, and replaced it and it works!

This unit has a problem with the control board that causes the display to go out and have no power to the interior light. when it fails, it will go into a default function and will operate at the factory settings. it is not good, but it will continue to work this way forever.
with this unit being 3 years old, its not likely that whirlpool will do anything about the repairs, but you can call their 800 # and ask if they will help with the repairs. sometimes they will give an authorization for repairs, maybe parts, maybe labor, or both.
it might be worth a cal to them to see, but dont hold your breathe. good luck with whirlpool and if they do give you an auth# then they will recommend an authorized company to do the repairs.
