I had the same problem and resolved it last night. You'll also need to connect an audio cable (EVENTHOUGH YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO - to bad pioneer didn't fully implement the HDMI standard in this receiver) solution. I suggest using an Optical cable. This really annoyed me...see the manual on P.17 section #3.

I have a Pioneer VSX D412 S receiver with my Pioneer surround sound system The system SUDDENLY STOPPED RECEIVING SOUND SIGNAL FROM MY HD TV

  1. Turn the TV and receiver off and back on. This is called "power cycling" the devices.
  2. Check the menu settings to make certain the TV is still sending a sound signal out to the receiver.
  3. Disconnect the cable, blow both ends out, reconnect, and see if the cable was partially disconnected or has dust or lint interfering with the connections.
  4. Change the cable for another cable that you know to be working.
  5. Use a different source for the TV: DVD, Cable, different channel, etc.
  6. Connect the receiver to another TV.

You should be able to get a cable that will allow you to hook up the headphone output of your laptop to an rca input on your receiver.

I have never seen RCA to digital conversion, and if it did exist you would have to convert from digital to analog in order for this to work, the sound quality would be degraded and unreliable, plus sound level would drop.

Not getting sound thru speakers only tv with hdmi cable connected do I need to connect Digital fiber optic cable too Also able to download owners manual for vsx1017txv

Receivers of this complexity require some patience. I believe the HDMI on this receiver is only for on screen display and video pass through. The audio needs to be separately connected. For digital audio you need to connect either via the digital audio coax or fiber optic input. I replaced my entire 1980s audio system with this unit and have been very happy. It's compact, and I feed it everything via a 35' fiber optic cable (under $20!) tied to a 3-way passive fiber switch (under $10) connected to my computer, a Tivo, and a DVD player. Sounds amazing (make sure to run set up to get the unit to perform with all of your speakers! -- I use an 8 speaker 7.1 surround set up).

Does the pioneer sx315 receiver work with the samsung led?

From memory, this amp does not have HDMI.
If this is the case, use an optical fibre cable for your connections.(Audio)
And if you want every thing to run through your amp you will also need to use component video cables (red/green/blue)
I would suggest the following.
Blue Ray to TV with HDMI.
HD Reciever to TV with HDMI.
TV AUDIO OUT to AMP with Optical Fibre.
This way, whatever is displayed on the tv, the sound will come throught the amp.
Hope this helps.

When i play music cd all speakers work but when put a dvd on only the 2 front ones and centre speaker goes? Tried all settings. Y are my 2 surround sound speakers not working? I have a pioneer vsx-816...

What is happening is the the pioneer is set up so that you can choose how you listen to your DVDs. So first you must see how your DVD is connected via the audio. I am fairly sure that the Default on the Pioneer is to play it through the standard stereo if all you have plugged in is the left and right audio plugs. If you buy an optical cable or a plug in the Digital Coax out put to the pioneer receiver, then the pioneer will decode the sound and out put true surround sound. Some DVD players don't have a digital out put, but these are the cheapest ones out there. If yours doesn't have a digital out put, then you need to get one that does. They can be purchased for as little as 39.00.

Okay lets assume you bought a DVD player with Digital out put for audio and you have it connected to the receiver. Now, you have to change the mode on your pioneer to let it know that your audio is coming in DIgital when you select the DVD. (Though this may already be the case and you won't have to do anything once you connect it.)

Pioneer VSX-D608 Optical connection

The manual states that the default association of each digital input in as follows:
  • Optical 1: CD
  • Optical 2: MD
  • Optical 3: TV
  • Coax: DVD
Use the "Signal select" button to set the receiver to use a digital input, and the Dolby/DTS button (above "Signal select") to enable decoding.

As samz11 stated above, a remote is required to alter the digital input mapping.
