Rose Art Super Shrink Art Instructions?

I purchased 2 of these kits from Michael's 'from Santa' for my kids. NEITHER box has instructions, even though the box clearly states it is to be included. Their website bites and does not even list this product! Can ANYONE help out? I have no idea what temp to bake them or for how long or anything else.

Same problem. Anyone have the actual instructions?

  • Anonymous Dec 30, 2008

Same problem. So, are we supposed to use the sheets of paper as a guideline, but color on the plastic sheets? Cut them out and then put in oven? I've never seen these done before. I tried calling # on the box and they are open 9-3 pm EST(1-800-crayons).

I'm not going to buy anything from Michael's next year. I'm wondering if this is all second-rate **** that they're selling, because the product isn't even listed on megabrands website as a current product. This is the second Xmas present I bought from Rose Art / Mega that was missing something from the sealed box. Argh!

No Instructions in mine either, just purchased from Michaels. Assuming it is probably the same as 'shrinky dink' so can google for that or "shrink plastic" and find some info I would assume.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2009

I purchased oseart Supershrink Art May 8th, 2009 from Michael's and guess what no instructions. So thanks a lot to the people who posted the info and shame shame on Michael's.

I emailed Mega Brand's Consumer Affairs Dept and received the following instructions re Rose Art's Super Shrink Art:

Super Shrinky Dinks Art

Instructions:

Step 1: Place a sheet of Shrinky Dinks over a design with the rough side up. Trace the design including the thin cut line around the edge. When tracing letters, draw your own cut line approximately ¼” away from the letters.

Step 2: Color and decorate your artwork with the other colored pencils. Be sure to stay only on the rough side of the Shrinky Dinks.

Step 3: Ask an Adult to help you with this step. Cut out your colored design from the Shrinky Dinks following the traced cut line. Make sure all of the edges are smooth. Do not leave any sharp corners or they will become very pointy when the art is shrunk. Use a hole, punch if you want to make a key chain.

Step 4: ADULT SUPERVISION REQUIRED FOR BAKING. Pre-heat your home or toaster oven to 325*F (163*C) NO MICROWAVE. Put your creation onto a non-stick cookie sheet with the colored side up. Place in oven and watch until it shrivels up and then flattens out.

Since it won't FixYa won't let you zoom on the image and print, here is the text:
    1. Place a sheet of Shrinky Dinks over a dsign with the rough side up. Trace the design including the thin cut line around the edge. When tracing letters, draw yor own cut line approx. 1/4 inch away from the letters.
    2. Color and decorate your artwork with the colored pencils. Be sure to stay only on the rough side of the Shrinky Dinks.
    3. Ask and adult to help with this step. Cut out your colored design from the Shrinky Dinks sheet following the traced cut line. Be sure the edges are smooth. Do not leave any sharp corners or they will become very pointy when you skrink the art. Use a hole punch if you want to make a keychain.
    4. ADULT SUPERVISION REQUIRED FOR BAKING. Pre-heat your kitchen oven or toaster oven to 325F. DO NOT MICROWAVE. Place your creation onto a non-stick cookie sheet with the colored side up. Place in oven and WATCH the baking process. It takes 1-5 minutes depending on the thickness of the cookie sheet. Piece will curl and then flatten out. Bake another 30 seconds then remove from heat. Let cookie tray and art cool for 3 minutes.

I went to the shrinkydinks.com website...'cause I'm old and that's what they used to call them. I found the baking directions there. It says your supposed to cut a brown paper bag into a rectangle that you place on a cookie sheet (turn up the corner of the paper rectangle so you can pull it off easier) bake them on the side you colored UP at 325 for 1-3 minutes. After baking, remove the paper from the cookie sheet (with the shrink art still on the bag I'm assuming) and use a pad of paper or something heavy that won't adhere to the plastic to press flat for 15 seconds. If my directions are unintelligible please go to the website above yourself. My 6 year old keeps talking to me while I am typing this.

I used the toaster oven at 285 degrees and within seconds the size changed. I used the bottom of a tin can to keep the hot shrink art from curling.
