Question about SanDisk Sansa e260 MP3 Player

Error message on E260 player

I am getting the message: Not enough space on music md, please free up 6 mb. The initial 4 gb memory is full, and I am using a 2 gb memory card, which has over 1 gb memory left. This message comes up each time I turn the device on. This message just started when the external memory was added. Any information on why this is happening would be helpful.

    My sansa player is 4gb and i haven't put a sd card in it yet.and when turn it on it says refreshing database then i have to wait for a couple minutes then it says to free 6mb. i dont know whats wrong with. now it starting to erase music off of it. its not on the mp3 player but when i put it on the cpomputer it shows it on there. please someone help me with this problem.

Same problem delete a couple of songs up to 6 mg or 10 whatever then allow to refresh then download your songs back in the music file. the sansa needs some memory to know it has the sdcard in it...

Connect to your computer copy music to a folder and save as whatever name you give it Then format Check the folder with the music in it to see if there is a file thats not MP3 delete it if there is one then replace the musicto the sansa keep about 6MB of free space

When I try to download music, my player says I must remove 6 mb. There is no music on it...what gives?


check if you've got videos or such onit, back them up using pc or delete files = free some space of the player's memory, seems to be short of memory

DO YOU GO TO YOUR COMPUTER ICON ON YOUR COMPUTER AND THEN PLUG IN YOUR SANDISK SANSA AND THEN DRAG YOUR SONGS TO IT BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I DID AND IT WORKED

If you have formatted there is no music on the player. You will have to re-sync any the music. Set the USB mode to MTP, then Use Windows Media Player 10 or higher to sync player.

E260 shows 0 MB memory and 0 MB free space after recovery


Look, I think the best thing to do is to return the product. Normally, they gave you a new one. My old one broke with a blank screen. So the bestbuy guy talked to his manager and gave me a new one.

My sansa e260 isnt turning on


Well for starters, clear some memory. It sounds like the player is trying to turn on but failing as there is not enough free flash memory for it to use in a RAM like fashion. If youre using windows enable the view of hidden files folders. [Start> Control Panel> Appearence and Themes>Folder Options then browse through the tabs until you find a list which has the option "show hidden files and folders". Then plug in your e260 and go into the larger removeable drive. Then go into the folder "VIDEO" or "PICTURES" or "MUSIC and delete some files. Then once you have deleted at least 100MB, unplug and restart the player. This should fix your problem if it doesnt. Consider formatting the removeable disc, or updating the firmware. [However take extreme caution with formatting the disk to ensure that it does not contain the program files needed to run the player.

Music DB?


You have put too many songs on the device.

It needs some free space to create the Music Database or the Artist, Album, Song information.Generally between 6 - 10 MB for each GB of music on the device is sufficient.

If it shows up in My Computer, you can manually delete some files from the MUSIC folder.

If not, you can use the following software to erase everything and start over.





Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.

- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.

Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.

RECOVERY MODE
Switch your Sansa E260 to its Recovery Mode:

1. Make sure the player is powered off
2. Enable the "Hold" switch (located on the top of the player). You would know it's enabled when you see the "orange-colored" surface
3. Press the "Record" button. Make sure you keep it pressed while pressing on the "Menu" button.
4. keep your fingers pressed on these 2 buttons until the E260 LCD screen displays "Welcome to Recovery Mode"
5. Connect your E260 to your computer. (Just a reminder: The minimum Operating System requirements for a Sansa E200 player is Windows XP and above)
6. Double-click on "My Computer" and you would see your Sansa E260 appear as a "16 MB" drive. Note: If you do not see that "16 MB" drive/partition, please repeat steps 1-6.

Next, Apply the firmware for the E260 (your player should be connected to your PC at this time):

Step 1:
Use this link to download the firmware for your Sansa E260 (for better results, please save this file on your "Desktop":

Step 2:
Double left-click on the downloaded file, and follow the on-screen prompts. The file will automatically re-flash your player and format it as well, thereby clearing all possible file/system corruptions that may have occurred which caused the player to keep resetting.

Step 3:
When the process is complete, unplug your E260 from your computer, and please make sure you disable the "Hold" switch

Step 4:
Power up your E260 and 90-99% of the time, it would boot up successfully. If not, try to repeat steps 1-4 again.
