Connection to the internet issue

My son has an acer aspire one notebook. It has only been used three times. The problem is with the internet connection. It was working fine on a wireles connection but when we have come to use it today it wont connect. I have tried connecting it with a cable but it still doesnt like it. So i then went into the setting and then network connections but it wont let me go any further. If i click on this it just remains on the same screen. So i cannot still connect to the internet. Howver we have touched any od the settings either. Can you help to fix this?

that is the full list of what it has. It is that Linux thingie. If it were WinXP i woulod be ok but never used this Linux thingie before!! lol! I plugged it to the LAN but that didnt do anything either. I thought if it had stalled or something it would nudge it on. It has been rebooted too - a few times! Thanls for helping so far

If you are still within warranty, Acer support might be your best bet as they are trained on the Acer's specifically.

Otherwise, a knowledgeable neighbor, friend, or acquaintance might be advisable because there are multiple reasons for not being able to connect to the Internet.

    Some questions to ask are:
Can another computer at your house access the Internet?
If you unplug the Ethernet cable from a working computer and plug it into the laptop, does it still have problems?
What new software has been installed since you were able to access the Internet?
Has any new hardware been added/replaced since last access to the Internet?
    Are there any error messages?
Does all the rest of the software and hardware work properly?
If you have Window XP, have you tried running a System Restore back to the time when you were able to access the Internet?

If you plug it into the LAN port, will it connect to the Internet? Does this laptop run WinXP or Linux?

I have no experience with Linux so if out of warranty there are 2 options I can recommend.

Find someone who knows your flavor of Linux very well and have them help you

or

Reformat and install XP. :-)

Sorry to be of so little help.

When you boot it, does Linux find and attempt to configure the network card? You should see messages about it installing drivers for it while it's booting.

If it does install the network card, try opening up the eNet Management software. First, make sure your network connections are on.

If the LAN card drivers are loading as they should, go here...
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/Acer%20eNet%20Management.pdf
for step-by-step instructions on creating a new profile. One caveat, I'm reading the manual from the Acer site, and I'm hoping the software looks the same for you as the pages look to me.

Post back with how this goes.

If you reinstall windows using System Recovery Disk then you do not need to worry about anything, it will
bring your computer back to the factory settings. However, if you use Windows DVD to reinstall the system then you need to install all the drivers manually.
If your drivers are missing then download it form your manufacturers website.

If you are using win XP

If you are using the supplied Acer program to setup your wireless, I would suggest removing the program. In most cases, removing their software does not remove the drivers, and thus, Windows Zero Configuration will take over the wireless.
WZC, in my opinion, works very reliably and has solved this type of issue in the past, although it is not the only reason for disconnects. For instance; a weak signal and a lot of interference from neighboring networks can cause your wireless to become unstable.
If this doesn't fix your connection issue, you may have an issue with the wireless card itself.

Acer aspire lost internet connection how do i connect

Look on the Function keys on the keyboard (the F1 through F12 keys) Do you see a wireless icon on one of the keys? If you do, then look for a Function (Fn) key on the keyboard. Press and hold Fn, while holding Fn, press the funtion key with the wireless icon (example: the wireless icon is on the F2 key; press and hold the Fn key, while holding the Fn key, press F2, release both keys).

Try booting to Safe Mode and using System Restore to go back to a time before your issue started. That might at least get you on the Internet to download some drivers. Good luck and post back with how it goes.
