Question about Jacuzzi Bath Era BK37 959 White toilet bowl and tank

1 Answer

Toilet not flushing properly

Jacuzzi BK 37 elongated 1.6 gal flush.. water just swirls around and nothing gets down the drain.. flapper opens all the way and the out flow of water from the tank is slow... in fact if the flapper is up the tank will fill faster than the water goes out.... no apparent problem in the trap itself and nothing appears to be blocking the flow of water out of the tank ???

Response to Joe Lorna: The toilet is only a year old. And the problem seems to have suddenly appeared. Plunging doesn't help. The water goes down, but then with the next flush, its back to the same swirling, etc.

How old is this toilet? Did the problem suddenly appear or did it start gradually and get worse? Does it help when you plunge it? Let me have more info and I can help you.......Joe

My toilet flushes, then the water in the bowl drains over 4-5 minutes resulting in sewer gas smells.

Look inside the tank under the lid, it sounds like the flapper that lets the water into the bowl is getting hung up on something when you flush. It could be the flushing lever. This would cause the flapper to stay open letting water to just pour into the open sewer line. It should be a simple fix. Just see what is binding the flapper & make an adjustment.

After flush the system must close the hole which lets water into the toilet. If it does not close after flush, it is continuously letting the water thru. Check if it closes after flush and allows tank to fill.

I have a new American Standard Cadet 3 that was just installed. After flushing, the water fills into the bowl. However, after several minutes, the water in the bowl slowly drains away and is nearly gone....

Sorry for problem with new toilet.
You say water is leaking out of the bowl?

Toilets have 2 parts:
1) Tank: where water is stored for the flush and is sealed with a flapper.
2) Bowl: where water flushes down.

a) If tank is leaking water, then flapper is suspect. Replace flapper and see if that works.
Lift up flapper and run finger around rim to see if there is a rough spot that would indicate flush valve is defective, and needs replacement.
See typical flush valve

b) If bowl is leaking, that is very unusual and would indicate a crack in the porcelain.

If installer sold you the toilet, it is his responsibility to make good on product.
All products are guarantee against workmanship flaws.

Toliet won't get rid of solids

first shorten the chain from flush lever to the flapper valve by one or two links at a time until flushing properly

second the flapper valve might need a wipedown as well as its seal (top edge of tube where water goes down into bowl) the leaking is because the flapper valve is not seating properly.. you may need to replace the flapper itself.. easy to do, and a common part at hardware store.

The toilet does'nt have the same flush pull taking a couple of flushes very slow draining

Check the following: Is the water level in the tank properly set? Is the flapper valve opening fully when flushed? And is there any blockage in the waste line? Use a plunger to try and clear the line if the first two items are OK.

My Eljer toilet does not always flush completely. It is approximately 20 years old. I don't believe that it is a venting problem. I have dismounted, inspected and remounted the toilet and found nothing...

Not being a plumber by trade I don't want to bad mouth what your plumber had to say but there may be other things to consider.
If the toilet does not flush directly into the main drain there is the possibilty that the coupling between the main drain and the toilet drain is under-sized which could cause reduced water flow and your toilet not flushing completely.

Toilets are refilling between flushes

Replace the flappers, and clean around the flapper seat.

Make sure the water level is 1/2 " below the large vertical tube by either bending the float rod down or adjust the skinny silver rod on a Fluidmaster unit.

it sounds like your flapper (flush valve) is leaking.
if you here your toilet filling up and no one flushed.
push down on flapper to see if you here the water stop leaking out. if so replace flapper. even if toilet is 1yr or less old. could be a bad flapper. hope this helps. duane :)
