Microtek x6 scanner and lightlid instruction manuals

I have purchased a secondhand Microtek x6 scanner and lightlid (1999 I am told) to scan my old slides, photos and negitives to disk. The scanner and lightlid come with no instruction manuals and I find I can not use the scanner at all. It has been connected to my computer by another more knowing person and they have put Scan Suite and PhotoImpact 4.2 into my computer. The scanner turns on. Can anyone help me with manuals please?

Re: Microtek x6 scanner and lightlid instruction manuals

A Scanner this old is not likely to work with a computer that is current. You did not say if you have the driver disk to try. If you have and have loaded the MiraScan software, right click on the program icon and click on properties then campatability and set to run as W98 and see what happens You will not find driver for this one now. I assume you are running XP or 2000 This scanner designed to run with W95/98 is not compatible with modern NTFS systems.

Can't uninstall microtek 5900 scanner

This is a funny problem. Try & locate SCanwizard 5 files and delete them. Complete the registry deletion as suggested. Run scandisk. Install and uninstall Scanwizard 5.

Software and driver

You should be able to download the proper drivers for your Operating System directly from Microtek:

Since you didn't tell us which country you're located in, or which OS you're using, I can't provide any more specific information for you...

The Download page is located here, for users in the US:

From what I could determine, the X6 model was discontinued some time ago, and there were at least THREE versions of it; you'll have to find it listed under the Product Category in the Discontinued Products section, then choose the version (parallel port / EPP, SCSI, or USB), in order to download the driver you need. Seems that the SCSI version has drivers ONLY for Apple computers; if you're using Windows, you'll need to choose one of the other options...

Connecting a scanner

Hi, Based on your post/description, I will assume that your scanner then is X6 EPP and that: 1. you have the original CD installer or downloaded the 3 .exe files from 2. you followed the instruction in your manual or at and still "...the "test connection" says there is no connection..." A possible workaround: Power off and reboot, on restart hit del, F2 or whatever it is that will allow you to go to BIOS. In the BIOS setup, look for the "Parallel Port Mode", you might have several choices are ECP, SPP, EPP, ECP + EPP; select EPP, save, exit, reboot. Try your scanner. If this doesn't work, try the ECP + EPP or the others (might as well). If still a no go, double check that you have the right drivers for the right Windows. Hope this be of help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Need operating instructions

This link should have user manual etc. but unfortunately the site is down at the moment - try again later. on the singapore (east asia) site nothing obvious based on your problem, but at least it means they still acknowledge the product and that they have to support it. maybe you can spot something yourself as well. If no luck with the US website then go to and complain to any of the other sites. Their customer service should help. If no joy from this please post again, someone might know the software. Hope this helps :)
