No power after storm

I have no power after an electrical storm. Is there a fuse to prtoct the power supply from a power surge or did it fry my power supply? Also the cable conector got ripped out when someone tried to move the tv, looks like the board is broken also. Any suggestion?

You will need to replace it. The storm fried your board for sure, there is no fix for that, and a broken board is useless. you can't really put it back together because the entire surface of an electornics board is conducting electricity through it from component to component. If it could be fixed, it will surely cost you more to fix than buy a new one. Sorry to be the bad news bearer but it is shot, you are left with a giant paperweight.

SOURCE: TV won't power up after surge

Try this: unplug the set and wait about 10 or 20 minutes. This is to make sure that the main power supply filter caps completely discharge. Look on the power supply board, close to where the AC cord attaches to the board. Look for a white resistor labeled "0.1 OHM" (the symbol for OHM, like an upside-down U) and measure it with your ohm meter. If it is open then your switching transistors in the main power supply are most certainly shorted. Older sets had 2 separate transistors on little heat sinks labeled "C4834", then they switched to 2 transistors in one package labeled "MX0841" or "MX0842", and then some sets went to two separate MOSFET transistors. Measure those parts and post your results and we will guide you from there.

SOURCE: Won't Power-On

Do you have a VOM meter? Unplug the set and open the back, the fuse should be easy to find "small glass cylinder with a metel cap on each end. Test it for continuity. If it tests good or shorts again after replaceing then there is a lot of other things that can be wrong. Let us know. If you replace it it is important to use the same exact value which should be written on the board next to it also NEVER jump it with a wire! Hope this helps. Don

Insignia quit working after storm

Check the fuses on the power supply board first. They usually blow when you get a power surge. You may be able to replace them and get the TV running for a few dollars. If the fuses are good then the power supply board will be the issue. The main board should not be damaged because the surge has to go through the power supply board first.

I had an electrical storm and my Advent TV will not turn on. Could it be fried? Is there a reset button? model Dv2418A

If you had TV on True surge protector and all other devices are still in the mix you should check out TV's power board for obvious damage or blown fuse(s).

No power on Samsung TV after storm

Hello Zkarim,

I'm very sorry to hear about your unfortunate new's. I had the same problem in my own home maybe a week ago.

Basically if your power flickered on and off at anytime during this storm then there was a power surge that probably fried your TV.
* First check the power where the tv was plugged in. Is it a power strip or a surge protector ? Surge protectors typically have an on/off switch and a separate reset push button.

If it is a power strip then the tv fried because there was nothing to stop it from happening (not even the fuse). If it was plugged into a surge protector then it could be quiet a few years old and not as reliable or the surge was to powerful for the limit on the surge protector.

The only thing you can do personally is send it in for repair if it's under warranty, if it is not then you can have it looked at by an authorized repair technician in your area. Troubleshooting should be fairly low, and you will at least be able to find out your options once they find the defected part.

Thank you for choosing Fixya!

After an electrical storm my Acer m1640 has no power although the mains power lead is intact. Are there any internal fuses that could have blown

Hi,
Sorry, no fuses. Lightning is a major cause of computer failure. Failure could be a power supply, motherboard, processor or the whole system.

Next time get your computer a good surge protector. They are cheap and protect your computer from electrical mishaps.

My television quit working after a storm, it wasn't even turned on during the storm. the power on the set and remote does nothing. but it makes a sound when plugged in like it is turning on then nothing...

Ok, this was a direct hit in this case and you will defiantly need to replace the power supply board in this unit. the first thing that will happen during a direct hit is, the surge will run threw the power cord and travel threw the entire power supply circuitry, frying all circuits. this includes the main mother board as well. I recommend replacing the mother board and power supply board as well. this will restore your set to its original operational value. The mother board is commonly called the main control board.

please rate and god bless:)
