Question about Linksys WRT160N Wireless Router

Internet page does not fully display

I instaled a Belkin G router yesterday to run two desktops (Dell and Compaq) and one laptop (wireless). One of the desktops (Compaq)works fine while the other desktop (Dell) will not display the internet page (only the address bar and the address on the tab). Today, when I go to do a google search on the Dell (which I unplugged from the router and plugged directly into the modem) the page displays quickly and IE closes immediately. I called Belkin yesterday on two occasions and both times they told me the firewall on the Dell was preventing it from displaying the full internet page. What is going on ?? Pls help!!

disable the firewall, then try it. If it works then you have to enable the firewall and go to intenet applications. and make sure that IE,Firefox or whichever browser you are using, has full access.

There are two reasons
1) the firewall on Dell preventing it from opening up
2) IE needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled

Try the later

IE closing immediately indicates that one of the files for IE is corrupt or broken or missing. Try and repair the IE file/files that is/are missing/corrupt

My Dell desktop using Windows XP can't connect to my Belkin 5720 router but my laptop still works?

This sounds like a hardware failure, but just in case go to your computer Control Panel-Network Connections(Network and Sharing Center for Vista and above), and check your Network adapter settings. If your Network card is not showing, you may have a driver issue, or a bad NIC (Network Interface Card). It shouldn't matter that your router says" wireless hardware not detected", because you are hardwired from the computer to the router. I would check to see if you may have turned off, or blocked Ethernet connections on your router, I would then change my Cat5 (Ethernet) cable, and finally open the desktop and change out the NIC (Network Interface Card).

You would connect a laptop from Canada the same way as one from the US. You want to make sure the wireless card is turned on and check for wireless networks. Once you have found your network select it make sure you type the password correctly.

If you are able to connect to internet from the PC by conecting it with a cable then the issue is surely with the wireless setup, please check the IP address on the laptop is it coming in the rannge of the IP of your desktop and router you can check it by go to start menu from the bottom left of the computer and type "run" there it will open the command prompt, type "ipconfig" there and you will be able to see the IP, the reason can be you have some wireless security on your router and same code need to be entered on the laptop to completely connect and access internet

You can follow the below link also it will help with wireless connection

I can offer this page of information on DNS servers, but that's more than I know about them...However, this page, this page, and this site in general may help you get connected. Note the troubleshooting section.
This page will offer a wealth of helpful vista guidance and is a good starting point for checking your overall network.
You might also find better instructions for your router online at the Belkin support site here. FWIW.
Normally, you will set up the wireless access point using the existing desktop computer. Then the wizard will help you to add the laptop. You may also want to set up the new laptop first by connecting it to the ethernet cable and establishing the network connection. Then proceed to use the wireless network connection wizard to configure the wireless network connection, to get the laptop connected to the wireless AP.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

My router is connected but my pc cannot get on the internet, says ie cannot display this page? I have XP serv pack3. My laptop is Vista. Laptop works great, only problem is with desktop. Is my ie disabled?

HI,
check in the Belkin Wireless Monitor that the DCHP status is enabled for the desktop PC.
On the PC desktop, select Networkconnections, show existing networkconnections, select your connection, properties, scroll to the TCP/IP settings, select and check properties you should have selected "obtain IP address automatically.
Restart your PC. If you still have problems close down your PC and laptop, unplug modem from electricity, unplug router from electricity, wait 2-3 minutes, put the modem on again, put the router on again, start up your PC and then start up your laptop.
This procedure works always for me if I loose my connections. Does it solve your problem?

MY ROUTER KEEPS LOSING CONNECTION

Hello fieldon68, & to all the rest with the same problem.

There are many things that could be wrong, but intermittant discounnects sounds very much like a interverance from another wireless device. (ie phone, cell, etc)

To try to address this issue, follow the steps below:
Note : The steps below are applicable only for Belkin routers.
  1. Open an Internet Explorer window on your computer and type in http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar. This will take you to the Belkin router's web based configuration page. If you are not able to open the page click here.
  2. You will get a login page. Leave the password blank. Click Submit ( unless you created a password, then enter that).
  3. On the left side of the page, click Channel and SSID below Wireless .
  4. The wireless channel on the Belkin router is set to Auto by defualt. Change the wireless to a static channel. Click Apply Changes .
  5. Click Logout in the top right hand corner.
Note: The wireless card in the computer will automatically detect the change in channel number on the router and will update the channel on the card.
CauseYou get disconnected wirelessly mainly due to an environmental interference. When the wireless channel is set to auto, the router will cycle to though channels when it detects significant interference. When the router changes channel the wireless connection will reset itself and disconnect all wireless clients connected to the router. Wireless signals are prone to interference from cordless phones and electrical appliances (e.g., vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens). This is one of the more popular reasons Belkin wireless connections can drop. Good Luck Mark P.S. Please leave a rating.

Losing internet connection when I try to connect laptop to wireless router

Your cloning the mac address - thats the problem. It should use it's own mac address to connect to the modem. You need to power down the modem, then repower after a minute or so to let it connect to the new mac address. The problem you are seeing is due to network collisions betweenj the desktop and the router with the modem.
