Addresses won't come up after a couple of times-in address book

We loaded the whole address book into our new Dell and we have to keep going to the address book to ''TO'' and clicking on it to get the address. If you repeat the same address within a few days it will automatically come up but after that you have to keep going back to the address book and slect it again. Very time consuming. Didn't happen on XP and our old computer. Now have Vista.

I have Windows Mail. I can go to TOOLS and OPTIONS but there is no choice for E-MAIL OPTIONS. Under SEND it is already checked to " automatically complete e-mail addresses when composing". So I don't understand why it doesn't work all the time.

    Thank you for helping!!!!!!!

It appears that Windows Mail that comes with Vista will only cache the last 29 entries for auto completion...so its doing what its meant to do, thats the bad news. Good news is Windows Live Mail sounds like it may be a better alternative. Hope this helps. Happy new year to you too!

Assuming it's Outlook...

Tools --> Options --> E-Mail Options --> Advanced E-Mail Options, then check "Suggest Names..." at the bottom, then the usual Applies and OKs. You should be good then.

Sorry about the Outlook red herring... This answer may be more informative.

About the Autocomplete, it seems the issue isn't with you but with Windows Mail. There are literally hundreds of posts in the Microsoft tech forums about it from disgruntled people who used to have it in Outlook Express but no longer have it in Windows Mail. The way it goes is Windows Mail will only remember the last 29 e-mail addresses you use rather than the lots of old ones that Outlook remembers. If Autocomplete is that important to you, you may want to try using Mozilla Thunderbird or getting MS Outlook. I wish I could be more helpful.

Something goes through my address book and sends junk mail to eeveryone in my address book and it comes up with my name and e-mail address on it

There is no easy answer for this problem. You've downloaded malware that has highjacked your email address book. Your email provider will not be able to help. The best thing you can do is close the email account and start with a new one. Make sure to save your current address book so that you can reestablish it in your new email account. You need to make sure that you have a good virus/malware program running to detect unwanted access to your computer and applications.
If you need some recommendations on virus/malware detection software, let me know.
Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks.

IP Address Problem Duplicate address. ipconfig /renew causes errors

Go to Control Panel, then Network Options. Right click the "Local Area Connection" and click properties. Double click the TCP/IP and once that opens you can specify a different IP address manually for that pc which is different from the one your currently being assigned. If you need to see what address your currently pulling, when in the Network Options, Right click the Local Area Connection and click on Status. Click the Support Tab and then show Details. This will give you the current IP address, the Subnet Mask, the Gateway address and the DNS address(s). When specifying a new IP address, only change the last number to something higher than what it is now. If you currently have 192.168.1.5 for instance, specify a new address that is like 192.168.1.16. For the rest of the info, make it the same as what you saw under details. once you do that and hit OK a couple times, it will change it and resolve the IP address conflict for good. :)

Cheers!

I have cable internet through Time Warner and their modem connects directly to my Dell Dimension 8200 PC. I cannot connect to the internet and I am told it is because my computer will not read the ip...

you need to flush your dns
unplug modem (min of 10 sec)
turn off pc
restart in this order
modem (wait until most of the lights are solid) then pc
if your still having trouble

--------------------------XP Only -----------------------------------------------------------------
  1. Click the Start menu button on the Windows taskbar.

  2. Click Run... on this menu.

  3. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'cmd' (without the quotes) in the text box that appears. A command prompt window appears on the screen.

  4. Type 'ipconfig' (without the quotes) to view the status of the computer's IP address(es).

  5. If the computer is holding a current IP address, type 'ipconfig /release' to let go of the address.

  6. Type 'ipconfig /renew' to obtain a new IP address (whether or not the computer is holding a current address).
---------------------------------Vista or higher----------------------------------------------
1) Go to Start and click Run.
2) Run window will appear. Type cmd and click OK.
3) Command prompt
window will appear. Type ipconfig. You then will see the IP address and other network information of your network card
.

4) Type ipconfig /release to release the IP address.
5) Finally type ipconfig /renew to get new IP address.

then if this dont wont restart the computer.
if its still not working you will need a local tech to see if the ip address is hardcoded into the NIC

When I am sending emails through windows mail, I have to type full email address everytime, it is not picking up from contacts database (address book)

hi

well first of all you need to create a back up of all your address book on your computer on a csv code .
you can do this by clicking on to file and then click on import and export address book .
try to save the back up address book on desktop .
then delete all the address book from windows mail .
once you have done that then open up your windows mail on your computer and then go click on to file and then go to import address book click on to it and try to paste the address book from desktop .
and while doing this also try to create a new profile on your windows mail .
if you get any problem while doing this you can get back to me on fixya and i can help you out in doing so .

Thanks

My e-mail coming to me is going to another address sometimes

changing email address will loose only the profile that you created from old email. If your talking about the address book and personal files ( like old emails ). All you have to do is Archive it and open it from the email client (Outlook, Outlook express, Thunderbird, etc.) that you're using from new email address.

Please tell us the email client that you are currently using so that I can tell you where to grab the address book and Personal files from default folder.

Sure; find out what didn't get copied that Parson Tech Address Book 7 uses and copy that over too.  Could be registry entries, could be a print driver....
