The tv will not stay on

If it goes out after a few minutes, it could be bad solder connections on the convergence IC's or elsewhere. If it shuts down right away, it could be a short in one of the picture tubes which would not be worth replacing. It could also be a shorted high voltage transformer which would also make it beyond economical repair. Unless the set had an exceptionally good picture, I would be inclined to replace it. If you have noticed any color "smearing" across parts of the picture -- trash it.

Will not turn on. Shuts off immediately after turning on.

Sounds like the vetical deflection went out. Most likely have a leaking picture tube and the cooling fluid has goton on the board so you would be beter to replace if that is it.

Throw away this tv?

Please check cold solder joints in main board, specially in vertical deflection area. Its problem of dry solder joints. Little solder work required to fix this problem.

Mitsubishi CS-40503 shuts off while watching.

Could be any number of things, none of them easy to diagnose. Unless your a TV repairman it's probably not worth fixing. It will cost tou more in repairs than a new TV.

Red to pink screen after 5-10 minutes of play....

This is not the tube, it's most likely the colour controller and system function ic has gotten scrambled, taking this to a tech to re program should not cost more than about $150 AU

Phillips 36" shuts off

It looks like that your TV is overheating. Most of the TV's have a fail safe so if any case they are over heating it will shut off so it doesn't damage the TV. i would advise that you seek help of a professional in your area.

Sound Fades, then TV shuts off then continues to recycle on & off

Sometims several capacitors start going bad giving you the audio problem, but I don't remember the set turning itself off. That could be a secondary problem around the flyback transformer which may have a bad solder connection. I would check that first. Otherwise, I would be tempted to go with HDTV.
