Refrigerator gas flame goes out when traveling, otherwise it's ok
It's model # RM 2452, Serial # 547000112. I put some aluminum foil around the base of the "chimney" , suspecting wind was the culprit and now it stays on much better, but still goes out once in a while. Will that foil cause any problems? Should I add more until it doesn't blow out any more? Thanks for your input. Don

It seems like a gas pressure problem. Possible blockage or kinked pipe or faulty regulator on the gas bottle. If the fridge runs ok only when you use the gas hot water, that would change the gas flow / pressure. LP gas products are normally around 1.5 to 2.75 kpa pressure. If you have access to a manometer, the gas pressure can be checked. (NB/ You should hold a gas service licence to do this)
I just saw where they have a recall on this model Dometic Refrigerator RM 2652. If you go to the www.Dometic.com and find the recall info you can type your Model and Serial Number into the boxes and see if your model is one of the ones recalled. Don't know if this link will work but try it first and it will bring you straight to that box I am talking about on their website. Its http://126.96.36.199/recall.php, if not go to the one above and find the recall information. Hope this helps.
Your 'frige has either; a 12 volt power supply or, a gas flame to circulate the refrigerant gas to cause absorption refrigeration to work; check or, replace your power supply as it 1. holds open the gas valve relay, 2. heats the gas with a heating element.
Remove the food and icemaker (if it has one) . Remove all the screws holding the rear panel on and remove the rear panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle below the coils , and defrost until you see the drain hole . Keep defrosting the hole , sometimes hot water helps , until water starts to go down . Use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru to blow out any debris collected in the drain tube . Get a piece of ALUMINUM wire , stripped of insulation (14-16 guage ) and put as far into the drain hole as it will go without any force . Sometimes bending slightly will help it go farther . Wrap the other end 1 or 2 turns around the black rod ( defrost heater ) above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heater will transfer heat to the aluminum wire , keeping the drain from freezing again . Reinstall the back panel and icemaker ( if equiped ) and the food .
you may not have good air flow around the backside of the fridge. You may not have enough insulation. The unit my be low on freon.
When you receive advice from this website you have to understand that without the item in front of us, we are only able to provide "a best guess" as to what the problem might be based on you description of the defect. If you haven't described a clear and precise description of the defect you decrease the chances of an accurate reply. Thank you.
Ron; Check the burner assembly. 1 screw, remove the sheet metal cover and clean it. The burner collects rust. This is the likely. Other issues would be the gas pressure usually checked with a manometer. Should 11" of water column. If your furnace works good then the gas pressure is probably ok. Also could have a faulty ignitor which sends a miliamp signal back to the circuit board. Check the burner first, after that leave the cover off and turn the fridge on. Watch the ingnitor attempt to lite the burner. Be sure the spark is going to the burner and not shorting out on the sheet metal it is mounted in. If it is shorting to the frame the ignitor needs replacing. Thanks for using Fixya Jerry
