Hi There -- My scanner has suddenly stopped working. My OS is Windows 7. The scanner has been working fine up until this point, but now, "The Scanner is not connected, please check the cable." When I unplug and replug in the scanner, I get a pop-up message that reads "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it," When I click the error message, It takes me to a window listing all of the USB devices connected to the root hub, with the one signifying the scanner in bold. When I double click on it in the list, it reads below: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)." Any suggestions? I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of the drivers, and trying to plug the scanner into all of the other ports, no luck.

I bought one a couple of years ago. After plenty of hit-miss after trying to get it to work on my fresh XP installations, I have a solution. Installing it the normal way simply doesn't work.
First, go to 'start', 'control panel' then 'system'. Click the 'hardware tab' then press 'device manager'. You'll see a list of hardware.
If your scanner is already plugged in, find it (it could be listed under 'imaging' or under 'other devices'. You should see a yellow exclamation point indicating it's there but not working.
If you go to 'control panel... system' first, and then plug in your scanner, it will pop up automatically.
Now, right click on it, select 'update driver'. A window pops up. Insert the CD, then select 'have disk' and install normally.
Installing the remaining software is optional (acrobat 4.05 and so on)
I've used the "Panel" to scan my pics. Working like a charm.
