Question about Yamaha CDC-845 5-Disc CD Changer

1 Answer

Cd Tray Hi techman, my problem just occured and a bit similar to the fellow with a Yamaha CDC-755. My problem just occured while playing a CD. It stopped in the middle of the song. It opened the tray and when I reclosed it, it would not read the CD no matter how many times I shut the unit off. it would try and read then open the tray. Is it possible the laser/lens need to be replaced? Any idea what it costs to replace this? a guesstimation? Thank you Fred

Hi Fred..

I've done about 100 CD transports so far.
Try changing any belts in the unit. On some CD players ,if the open/close belt is bad, it wont allow the CD to be read either.
Also,VERY lightly cleaning the laser lens and dusting the unit out helps too.

CDC-735

Part Number VQ776900. I got it online for 99 cents but other places can be up to 7-8.00 dollars. I removed 5 screws on the sides and rear of the case. Took case off. Press the open button and help the drawer open with your hand while the motor tries to. Then remove old belt with pliers or paper clip, etc.
I did not take anything apart on the inside to replace the belt. Push the belt into the player over the larger wheel and then I pulled the belt with a paper clip over the smaller drive wheel.

The disc tray of my Yamaha cdc-745 CD player does open properly.

It's the belt inside the machine - open tray and look in front left side and you will see it. Easy to change out with new one.

DOOR KEEPS OPENING instead of playing

Hi. there is a tiny limit switch that regulates the actual CD platform drawer(The part where you lay down the CD). this switch if faulty. it is designed to shut of the load motor when the CD tray is fully inside the unit.

this limit switch must be replaced. this is a job for a qualified Yamaha service tech. contact Yamaha for this repair.

My CD changer's disk tray keeps opening up, refuses to play discs

You have a problem with the try control circuit. It could be the switch is leaking across itself. Could be a problem with the tray motor control IC, or the Microprocessor is not reseting the open tray line correctly, or theres a cam assembly inside the unit that tells the microprocessor where everything is by means of small micro/leaf type switches thats out of alighnment or broken. If its seven years old, you got more then it was designed for and I would'nt invest a dime or the time into the repair of this unit. Time to take a trip to the electronics store. Good luck
