How to get Registry cleaner.
Windows XP
Click START>RUN
Type regedit
Click ok

Windows Vista
Click Start and type regedit on your keyboard HIT ENTER.

Than:

you can turn on num lock by changing "HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Control Panel, Keyboard, InitialKeyboardIndicators" to "2"

OR if that single registry entry doesn't solve your problem than go for this.

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard\InitialKeyBoardIndicators

I cleaned my keyboard while turned on and now I cannot get my number pad to work, which buttons did I accidentally push to get to turn off and how can I get them back on.

Based on your description of the problem you're experiencing, it sounds like you most likely pressed the "NUM LOCK" key. If NUM LOCK was activated before you cleaned the keyboard and was accidentally pressed during cleaning, this key press would deactivate NUM LOCK, causing the number pad to stop responding. To reverse this, simply press NUM LOCK again. The NUM LOCK button is located right above the "7" key on the number pad (see picture below).

Alternatively, since the setting determining whether NUM LOCK is activated when your computer is started is stored on your hard drive, you can try restarting the computer to revert back to an active NUM LOCK. Be sure to try this in case the first solution above does not work.

My asus keyboard is writing some keys as letters and others as numbers - tried restarting and no change (I am using a USB one now)

Hi,

It sounds like you have your Num lock on. To disable the Num Lock either just hit the Num Lock key (its usually on the top right hand side of the keyboard) or hold down Fn and then hit the Num Lock key.

If you need more assistance please post back.

Regards.

My Num Lock keeps turning off whenever I log off my computer. It never used to do that. how do I fix it so it stays on?

dear sir
good day
to fix this problem you can enable this option from the bios setup sw by clicking on del button and navigate to this option and make it enable or you can fix it up with regestry editor by do the folowing
1.Click Start, click Run, and type regedit to open
the Windows registry editor.
2.In the registry, open the below folders.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Control Panel\
Keyboard\
3.Within the keyboard folder, you should have
a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2.
Below is the explanation of each of these values.
0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

Dell keyboard number lock issue

There is in fact an option in the bios, hit the DEL key as its booting and once in you should see the option for it, cant remember the wording but its something like Num Lock on Boot or something. If for some reason you are having trouble locating that or its just not there, you can have windows XP do it for you. !!!THIS IS A REGISTRY EDIT!!! Do not change anything but what is specifically posted here or you could foul up your system!

Go to your start menu, select run, type regedit

Navigate to the following in the Registry:

HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelKeyboard

Double click on 'InitialKeyboardIndicators' in the right hand pane.

Set the value to 2.

CAPs lock key is on al the time

When you start your PC, Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock don’t automatically toggle on. You can automatically turn each of them on or off whenever your PC starts, for all accounts on the PC. As a practical matter, most people probably want to have only Num Lock automatically turned on, but this Registry hack gives you the power to force any combination of keys on or off.

Start>Run then type in "regedit" whithout quotes.
ab41d8e.jpg
HKEY_USERS.DefaultControl PanelKeyboard.
3eaaaca.jpg Find the String value
InitialKeyboardIndicators. By default, it is set to 0, which means that Num Lock, Scroll Lock, and Caps Lock are all turned off. Set it to any of the following values, depending on the combination of keys you want turned on or off:
0 Turns off Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock
1 Turns on Caps Lock
2 Turns on Num Lock
3 Turns on Caps Lock and Num Lock
4 Turns on Scroll Lock
5 Turns on Caps Lock and Scroll Lock
6 Turns on Num Lock and Scroll Lock
7 Turns on Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock
Exit the Registry. When you restart, the new setting will take effect.

Note: You have problem with Caps Lock so just modify Caps lock option on Regedit.
And do not forget to run virus scan on your computer once you are done.

Thank you

Somehow I have locked the keys.

Turn the key? :-) No, seriously not sure what you mean by locking the keys. Did you restart your computer? Have you tried the keyboard on another computer. Check the status of the Num-Lock, Scroll-Lock, Caps-Lock, or F-Lock. Hope this helps.

Keyboard not working

My first solution for you would be, press the key Fn at the bottom left side of the keyboard and and the key on the top right hand side called ""num lik"" or ""scroll"". First hold the FN key down and then press only do not hold the num lik key.

Please tell me if you need a better explanation because I think I did not explained myself very clear.
