First you will need to take the recoil cover off as your taking the cover off see if the cord goes back in on it's own, if it doesn't then it is likely you are going to need a new spring for it

SOURCE: pull cord will not retract

Have to take all 3 plastic covers (housings) off to get to the spring and tie the new pull rope or change the spring. Just did mine, spring just unlatched and string wouldn't retract. Did not have to by any new parts....works great! Took me 1 hour to get it done.

Pull cord binding when mounted on engine but not when removed from engine

When you assemble the Recoil Starter, push it down onto the blower easily and then pull the cord slowly. It should drop into position as you slowly pull the cord.

Why will the Pull cord not retract?

I am not sure what your pull rope is on..but most are wound in a spring loaded housing on top of the motor.it may be bound up and not allowing the spring to rewind the rope..if you are mechanically inclined..you can get at the housing by removing the cover where the rope goes in..and do some adjusting..or If broken the complete winding device can be replaced and the cover replaced..good luck

Pull cord won't engage

remove the sparkplug and try to turn the flywheel if it turns freely then the engine is most likely ok. if it does not turn you have a locked engine that means its toast. If it does turn then you have to look closely at th pull recoil that it is engaging the flywheel.

Pull cord for starter is not catching?

There are starter pawls that catch the flywheel when the rope is pulled. They are plastic. You will need to disassemble the unit and remove the starter assembly to inspect the pawls.
