Question about RELIANCE ELECTRIC WATER HEATER

1 Answer

Residential electric hot water heater throwing br

I have a Reliance eletric water heater, 30.0 gal., approx. 4 yrs. old. Woke up the other morning no hot water, pushed the red button, everything was cool. Happened again the next 2 days but on the 3rd day the red button would not reset. The breaker was thrown so I tried to reset the breaker and sparks and pops shot out at me. My husband who wasen't home at the time I attempted to turn the breaker back on was certain I must not be smart enough to flip a switch so he tried it and the same thing happened to him. So..is this a h2o heater prob? or an electrical issue or both? Thank You for your time and expertise.

Sincerely,
Stacey James

Thank You

If you reset the water heater the first time you were without, Then odds are it is the water heater. probably an element went back. If the power off check for continuity.

I have a 640dors reliance capacity40 water won't stay hot long(electric)

remove the two covers one high and one low and set the temp higher. This time of year with colder water comming in the house the water heater has to work harder to raise the temp of the incomming water. In the summer the incommong water is much warmer. 40 gal is a small water heater and you will only get about 15 gal of hot water with the ice cold water entering the water heater as you use the hot water. You can get a bigger water heater. even better is to go tankless and a have never ending hot water and save money at the same time.

Reliance 501 Hot Water Heating element for 30 gal tank, where to purchase

You do not need special parts.
Wattage is printed on end of each element.
Buy generic elements at hardware store.

Woke up to no hot water changed out both heating elements and both thermostats meter says wiers are hot checked breaker its got power still no hot water any suggestions

Water heater can test for power, but is only receiving 120V instead of 240V.
Test that upper thermostat is getting 240V across top two screws of thermostat.

The water temp is set to the lowest thermostat setting; however, the water is extremely hot and often throws the safety breaker loaded on the heater itself...... I reset the red button and it heats.........

50 gal. Reliance electric hot water w/bottom element problems

Willard when you say it throws the reset button,do you mean the breaker on your fuse box of your home?
If you mean that then yes it could be a bad element. The bottom element takes all the abuse on a electric hot water heater. They can short out,and need to be replaced.
