1. Yes, but you have either have to have access on the router or if it is a free connection you will have to scan for that router to gain access and click on the router that is open to you if you have a wireless card in the Sylvania G net book which should have a wireless card built into the mother board. It will take you to set up your net book for wireless connectivity. 2. If you are trying to get connection through wireless router via a home network the administrator will have to allow your net book to have access, that is he will have to give you permission to connect with either a MAC address or an IP ( internet Protocol address).
hi guest,
welcome to the forum!
Let me think why your laptop cannot access to internet during it's already connected to your router.
1) Because the connection is established --> Wireless is working properly 2) If you cannot access to Internet --> Access Restrictions is configured in Router.
How to configure? 1) Login to Router Administrator, you need to open a command line and use usage as ipconfig and you will see as the following
C:Documents and Settingssin.le>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
These are some reasons why your new Hp laptop can't connect through your Netgear Router is because your Router has a security that used a password to connect to your router or the ip address of your desktop and Dell laptop is already setup to the router to work with internet.
Westell makes a line of broadband home networking products that enable
residential customers and users in small businesses to access and share
broadband services. These inexpensive DSL router/modems offer
multi-users Internet LAN access for home or business applications. The
Westell router/modems allow you to have the benefits of the "always on"
high-speed broadband Internet connection without losing the ability to
receive voice calls over the same phone line.
Step 1
Connect
one end of the Ethernet cable to the computer's Ethernet port. Connect
the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Westell router.
Step 2
Connect
the barrel end of the router's power cord to the connector labeled "12
v" on the back of the router. Plug the other end of the power cord into
a wall outlet.
Step 3
Connect one end of the DSL phone cable to the DSL line jack on the back of the router. Connect the other end to the wall jack.
Step 4
Wait for the Ready and the Link LEDs to glow steady green. The router is now ready to use.
The wireless configuration is set differently on routers, eg the SSID, and encryption. You need to configure the wireless LAN card in the laptop to connect/communicate with the different routers.
Some wireless LAN card allow you to setup different profiles/settings for different wireless routers. Eg one setting for the office and one for home, which allows easy connection to the Internet by selecting the appropriate profile/setting.
hi i would suggest to access your routers setuppage and set the channel to channel 11.
make sure also if your wireless network is secured, type the correct key those things are case sensitive.
to access the routers setuppage go to a computers that is connected to your linksys router (wired) then launch IE on the address bar type 192.168.1.1(this is the routers ip) then it will ask you for username and password for the username dont type any thing for the password type admin.
when your on the setuppage click on wireless tab. while on the wireless page set the channel to 11.
after that click apply or save settings on the page.
then after that try to connect to your wireless network on your laptop.
for further help you can call linksys hot line 1800-3267114
they will surely help you with this.
ushally you will have to set up your connection being connected to the router via the lan cable once you do that you can configure your laptop to be allowed to run on the wireless setting.
so if you have another computer hooked upto it you can set the permissions on that you have to create a new network for the laptop.
if you have the manual you can find the configuration settings for your router, most you just open up Internet explorer and then type in home to access this menu.
but for your unit im not 100% sure of the configure setup for it.
Hey there tabath, I have recently encountered this problem. It turned out that we were connected via a switch rather than a router. It seems the switch will allow you to network with each other, but only allow the admin connection to access the internet. Please check your exact model as 3com manufactures both products. Hope this helps.Good Luck!
