after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to CRT TUBE - MONITOR TUBE ) becomes weak - then 1 of the indication is ....monitor just blinks & switch offs .......so solution is EHT ( also called as flyback transformer ) should be replaced....... {{ few details about EHT---- its size will be around 3inch X 2inch X 2inch ---it will have 2 or 3 knobs to adjust focus , brightness ------ at bottom around 10 pins will be there ------- from EHT 1 thick red colour cable goes to CRT TUBE --------- on EHT its part number will be there }} -------- so if user is a technical person having idea about components ( resistors, transistors, diodes, etc ) , having tools like multimeter ( to check components) , soldering iron, soldering lead, flux, desoldering wig ( for removing components), etc also little experience in servicing field( very much compulsory) ----------------- then user can remove EHT from main board ---- take to electronic shop ----- buy same type EHT --------- fix to mainboard ( knobs on EHT should be adjusted according to picture --- after switching monitor --- this adjustment is very important ) ----------iam from bangalore (09986222774, [email protected]) ----- here EHT's price will be around Rs 250 ( US $ 6 ) & for my customers (in bangalore) i will take another Rs 500 (US $ 11) as service charge......i don't have any idea about EHT ' s price & service charge in your place.........since it is very risky job i suggest to contact monitor service engineer ------- because they are highly experienced & can fix this component very easily....SOME TIMES ALONG WITH EHT....A TRANSISTOR ( BIG IN SIZE & FIXED NEAR EHT) ALSO GETS DEFFECTIVE...........SO IT SHOULD BE COMPULSORYLY CHECKED BEFORE REPLACING EHT...
If horizontal output transistor gets over heated, the either LOT or Deflection Yoke may have some short in it. You just pull out the picture tube base card from the picture tube neck, and place it somwhere. so that it never gets in contact with any other circuit parts of the TV. Pull out the deflection yoke plugin and put the tv ON, and see whether it overheats now or not. If it overheats no also, LOT is defective, and should be replaced with a same type and number. If it does't overheat now. put the unpluged yoke connection, and switch it ON. If it gets overheats, there is some short in between the horizontal winding section inside the deflection yoke. Caution:- Never place the picture tube base board connected to it, while deflection yoke is disconnected. OK.
Hello
You just replace the capacitor fitted very near to the horizontal output transistor,[freewheeling capacitor], there may be one or two of them, whcih comes to a value of 3900pf to 6700pf 2000V or so. It is connected to the negative rail and the collector of the horizontal output transitor. If it gets opened, or its value gets reduced, this fault will occur. If so the transistor you replace will get shorted as you swich on the power to TV.
The second one is deflection yoke short. If so the transistor said above will overheat within seconds. Even a single winding inside the horizontal deflection yoke shors, it puts a tremendous load to flyback transformer, which in turn effects the transistor.
After replacing the above said capacitor, you do one thing to make sure about whether there is a short inside the yoke or not. It cannot be measured by normal methods. Fore that, unplug the base card from picture tube and place it somewhere near without getting any of its contacts to other parts inside your TV. This time only the EHT chord will be connected to picture tube. Unplug the horizontal yoke connection from main board. Switch on the tv, and wait for some time, say at about 10 seconds, and check whether the transistor gets overheated or not If it does overheats now also, the winding or EHT retifier diodes inside your flyback transformer has some trouble, and it should be replaced with same type and number. If it does not overheats now, the deflection yoke's winding have some short in it. Ok.
NB: Never connect the TV with base card is in postion while deflection yoke connection is isolated. keep it unpluged.
ALL the next is with the tv unplugged (NO NO power)
resold the jungle (video processor) all around
following the horizontal drive pulse path and arriving to the horizontal area just after the horizontal transformer and in the base of the horizontal DRIVER there is a electrolytic capacitor (if this chassis uses this one,) Change it (maybe is dry)
solder all components i just told you in the last step. horizontal driver, transformer, etc
remember:
if a transistor is blowing with no reason (there is a reason: the collector receives 130 volts but cannot hold it forever, It has to be in some place. if the switching pulse doesn't arrive to it the transistor throws this 130 volts and burning itself. i hope it is help full.
there are no of parts in television
main big parts are
crt or tube
eht
yoke coil
tuner
smps trnfr
ics & no of transistors & diodes
also controls ,speaker & no of caps &res.
