SOURCE: 1996 ford ranger headlights not working

I had the same problem 1998 ford ranger. left headlight very dim. right head light worked normal. pull back for high beam flash left dim headlight would go out. put on high beems left light got even more dim. trouble shot wires and replaced blinker/high low beam/whiper unit didn't fix. replaced headlight didn't fix. looked at wireing harnes connecter that conects to headlight bulb and center (black Wire) female contacts was open more than the others. (was making weak contact (ground)
FIX:::: SLIGHTLY BENT BLADE ON HEADLIGHT TO MAKE BETTER CONTACT WITH WIRE CONECTION WITH WIDER FEMALE CONTACT RECPTICAL. HEADLIGHTS BRIGHT AS EVER AGAIN. PS ALSO PUT DIELECTRIC GREASE IN CONTACTOR.

HOPE THIS HELPS

How to remove high beam switch from 1994 silverado

The headlight dimmer switch is located about 1/2 way down the steering column. it is attached with 2 screws and is adjusted up against a rod that goes up and into the steering wheel housing. Tip. take a large plastic wire tie and secure the rod before removeing the switch so the rod stays in place when the switch is removed. after installing and adjusting the new switch just cut the wire tie and discard.
good luck. P.S. the ignition switch is in the same location. its the switch with only one black connector going to it.

Your ranger'nt have a relay, you need to check the grounds to each light or you simply need two lights,or a dimmer switch.Check for power with a test light and if you hahe power replace the light,if you don't replace the dimmer switch.

Remove ford ranger ignition

Are you talking about the ignition cylinder? If so, there is a hole in the steering column under the ignition cylinder. With the key in the ignition turned to (I think) accessory insert a thin blunt object into the hole. You'll feel something compress a little and the ignition cylinder can be removed.

Disconnect thr battery and wait 5 minutes to deactivate the airbag. Remove the 2 caps covering the 2 8mm screws holding the air bag on. set the airbag a side.Unscrew the old switches , gently pry the switches from the wiring connector with a small screwdriver. If the connector comes off without damage install new switches to connector. If the connector gets damaged you will have to replace the wiring.

Lock cylinder problems

It is one of two things. The rod that connects from the tumbler or the pot metal hoop that actuates the rod and connects the tumbler to the rod. If the hoop is broken you will need to remove the steering wheel to gain access to the hoop. The hoops break in Fords all the time. They are very cheap to purchase. The steering wheel is removed first. Then the turn signal switch assembly. Then you have access to the broken hoop assembly I was telling you about. You will need a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel. Good luck.
