Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

Water not dispensing/flow is not fast

On our GE side by side the ice dispenses perfectly but the water flows very slowly, any idea why?

I changed the filter about 5/6 months ago. I read somewhere that a good test is to put the filter bypass plug to eliminate filter issues. Does that sound right?

Sound like time for a new filter. When was the last time it was changed? If less than a year or two, it's not the problem. If more, it's likely the filter is clogged reducing the pressure flow of water.

Also check the Saddle Value. If the water pressure to your filter is good, you don't have to check the Saddle Value.

What may be happening is the water control valve for the ice maker may be allowing water to continue flowing into the ice maker tray even when off due to the water control valve being defective. If your refrigerator also has a water dispenser and the water is not continuing to leak is because the water control valve has to sides. One side is for the ice maker and the other side is for the water dispenser. I am here if you have questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a side by side refridgerator freezer. I have just connected the water to the ice make / water dispenser for the first time and just a short trickle of water flows into the ice cube maker - not

I would guess that you need to purge the air out of the lines and system for it to work correctly. You can hold down the water dispenser for awhile to help, but if you do nothing, it should purge itself over the next few days.

There is something similar to a motor that controls the flow of water, it's called an inlet solenoid valve. I will look up some information and post more details briefly.

Replaced the water filter. the refrigerator is making ice but not dispensing water

Is there any packaging from the new water filter restricting the flow. Check for anything blocking the water flow near where you replace the filter and check for correct installation. If this problem was the reason you replace the filter check the switch that dispenses the water. Make sure it isn't "iced up".

Low flow from water dispenser

hi, this can be because of the filter. when the water is flowing threw the filter, it is sent threw many channels inside the filter before it reaches the dispenser. this slows it down a bit. this is quite normal but, if it's slowed down to a dribble, i suspect a water valve malfunction or you may need to change the filter.

Ice maker tube freezing up

  • change the water valve on the back of the machine.
  •  the water valve is slowly leaking water up to the icemaker where it freezes and builds up ice, blocking the water flow.
