White Screen on Razr, What is a "Strip Problem"

By JTrue on May 09, 2007

" "
My screen on my Razr is white and doesn't respond at all. I read a few threads on this site and I keep seeing people mentioning it is a Strip problem. What is the strip? Is it the electrical ribbon that connects the top and bottom of the flip phone?

-   hi!
I just read these solutions, and with much hope---banged the shi* out of my phone.

Five minutes in, it's still working...though I still am having a delay on the screen when I flip open the phone. Both screens "drop" to black intermittently, but generally recover once I hold the red button.

Does anyone have that problem?

Thanks!-   Guest

Before you open it and look inside it check to see if the magnetic switch is stuck. Check it with a kitchen magnet to the upper righthand corner of the keypad. There is a magnet in the lower righthand corner to activate it. Do some of the function work when it is closed? If they do then it is not the cable but the switch. Does the outside screen look the same as if it is closed then it is this switch? Could be a bad one, something stuck in there, or it could be stuck.

HERE IS MY SOLUTION, AND I AM SERIOUS.
I HAD THE WHITE SCREEN PERMANENTLY. IT HAPPENED WHEN MY PHONE FELL A FEW FEET OUT OF MY CAR WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR. AFTER SMACKING IT HARD LIKE A DECK OF CARDS, EVERY WAY, THAT DIDN'T WORK, THEN I GOT KINDA P.O. AND THREW THE PHONE UP ABOUT 6 FEET SO IT SLAMMED DOWN HARD ON MY TILE FLOOR. THAT ALSO DID NOT FIX IT. THEN I DID THE MOST INCREDIBLE THING. I DROPPED IT ABOUT 4 FEET ONTO A HARD TILE FLOOR, PHONE CLOSED, SO IT HIT ON ITS LEFT SIDE ON THE HARD TILE FLOOR. IT FIXED IT! I AM SERIOUS!

my phone was like this for about days and I tried all of these solutions and one of my own that used to work for my old gameboy (slam it on ur palm like a new pack of cigarettes) so I think my switch may of had something stuck in it's way. Thanks for your help hope to not be back, lol.

I have the same problem, White on the inside blue and also blank on the out side. I tried holding the # and * buttons and a blue M ( for motorolla) on a blue screen (on the inside)and came up with the words "bootloader USB INIT" alongthe bottom. Does this mean i need a new battery?

LOL... beating the **** out of this piece of **** phone actually fixed it... seriously... if your screen goes out... throw it around and bang it on things and it will work again. The RAZR is the worst phone ever created. Two cans and a string is better technology.

Thank you a million times over... tapping the phone on my hand like one does with a new pack of cigarettes TOTALLY WORKED for my Razr V3. I've been so frustrated with it for weeks because I couldn't tell who was calling or use any feature when I was on the phone. I guess it must have been the plug not being seated properly. I hope to never have to be on this message board again :-) God bless!

This also happened to me. White screen inside and small screen was also blank. It started only a couple of days ago. I had just purchased a new batter so I instantly thought of the new battery as somehow disrupting the magnetic field of the phone. I recharged the old batter and there was no change. I could turn the phone on and off or take the battery out and replace it..the screen would return to normal for approx 2-3 minutes. The white screen would unfortunately return.
Functionally, the telephone worked, just could not see who was calling or get any standard screen information.
I have gently hit it against my hand like a pack of cigarettes and the inside screen has returned to normal. The smaller outside face screen comes and goes. If this continues, I will take it to an authorized dealer

So I just read all of the solutions to this thread on how to fix the problem.
What do I do if my Razr has a white main screen and a blue front screen?
What might be the problem then? It would be nice to know how to fix my problem because then I wouldn't have to worry about borrowing my girlfriend's money to buy a whole new phone.

I would need some more information about the screen. First off, are both screens white or just the inside one. Have you replaced the battery?

Ok, I dropped my phone and the screen turned black but everything worked. I tried hitting the phone in my hand and that didn't work. So, I dropped the phone about 5 ft in the air on to something a little soft (scarf), and the screen magically turned back on. I think that you have to hit it hard enough so that the phone turns off and then turns on again.

i had the same problem, nothing but white screen on the inside and black on the outside. i read all these posts and i was very skeptical that tapping phone against your hand would work. so i turned the phone off and tried it out by tapping the top corners against my hand, i didnt even tap it that hard, and when i turned it on it worked like normal again. If you are skeptical of this at least try it because it worked for me. now i can finally retrieve some information i have saved on it so i can get rid of this peice of s***

Mine kept turning white for a while. I started out closing and opening it several times. Then it wouldn't fix it anymore, so I took it to the store and they updated it, which worked until now. So I threw it against the wall, and it works perfectly. Sadly, there is now a dent in the wall...

I have the same freakin' problem. Just started tonight and I hadn't heard of it before now. I've had this phone for less than a year! With AT&T and my employee discount with the USPS I'm sure I can find another phone for free and just replace the piece of ****.

Comment by timthom, posted on Jan 05, 2009

White screen on the inside, blue on the outside. No reason for it starting (not dropped or placed in water or anything). After a couple days the screen will periodically look like normal, sometimes just look very faded, other times nothing. This is my fourth Razr (first three were replaced under warranty) and I will never buy another Motorola product.

white screen inside blue outside... and ive dropped it and hit it loads of time but it doesnt fix it... : (

OK the Razas white screen appears to be a connection/electrical problem in its connector strip.  I was surprised to find that if I handed it to a co-worker, that she could make it work by just turning it on an off (I could not get the same result)  May sound like mombo jumbo but I think everyone has a different electrical field around them and if a person with a different enough field handles the phone it will come back.  It's worked 4 time now.  Not a joke!

theres white lines giong across my phone

Comment by helpmexy, posted on Mar 30, 2008

i dropped my phone when it was open and face down, now the inside screen is white, but the smaller outside screen is fine and shows what should be on the main screen. did i just break the inside screen or is it something else inside the phone that i can fix? i've tried removing the battery, restarting the phone, dropping the phone again, trying to fix the metal strip in the top left corner, etc. I put a magnet to the top rt. hand side of the keypad and it affected the screen, but folling with the strip didn't do anything? please help!

I had the same white screen problem:

Pulled the batter out and removed the black plastic sticker with the phone info on it and there is a magnetic sensor in the top right hand corner that needed to be pushed back into place. Seems to be working fine now.

my phone has white screen inside, but normal one on the outside displaying the time.

I have the same problem with my phone, and used a kitchen magnet (fresh off the fridge) and you're right, the magnet seems to operate a switch near the hinge. So how do I fix it? :)

Comment by vicki1583, posted on Nov 02, 2007

I dropped my phone and the big screen went white. The small screen on the outside is still fine. How can I get the big screen to display properly again?
