My dryer initially makes a buzzing sound and will not begin the cycle until I give it a few turns manually...

you have a bad motor,if you open the door, hold the door switch in with one hand and spin the drum with the other and have someone else push the start button on and if by helping it to spin it starts usually the motor is bad but i did find on the maytag neptune style dryer that the belt cut into the belt pulley and was holding up the drum and the motor was buzzing like it was bad but like i say usually it's the motor.next time send the brand name and model number and i can help you out better.

Whirlpool dryer makes a buzzing sound whey start button is pushed. sometimes it will turn on for a few seconds but most of the time it just buzzes.

The buzzing is probably the relay trying to start the motor. See if the motor has a capacitor, have it checked. If the motor is all clogged with lint, the start/run switch can get blocked. Clean out all that lint with a vacuum cleaner.
Check the tub bearing, and make sure the drum spins freely.

I bought an amana dryer, the tumbler does not turn, it just humms.

What is the complete model number of your unit?
The start relay on the motor is bad. Open the door, hold the door switch in and spin the drum as someone else pushes the start button and post back your results.

Maytag Performa dryer blows fuse after clothes get hot. I cleaned a large buildup of lint from inside the dryer all the way to my roof. I then replaced the hi limit thermostat, thermal fuse and dryer...

Hello,
their are two possiblities causing that

1) while cleaning the lint from the motor a wire accidently got pulled of of the motor switch

2) to me the buzzing when start button is pushed and may or may not start, the motor is bad

When trying the trick to start the motor by hand the door switch also must be pressed in

The start button will depress but it doesn't start. Not on any selected time. It's been getting harder and harder to push it to start and we have to hold it down for a long time for the dryer to start. ...

Try this (you may need two people):
1. Open the dryer door and locate the door switch. While pushing the door switch in, have someone else push the start button.
2. You'll hear the noise. Keep pushing both buttons and take your other hand, reach in side and grab one of the drum fins and manually push the drum in a clockwise direction.
3. The drum may take off on its own. BE CAREFUL TO REMOVE TO HAND QUICKLY TO NOT GET BUMPED BY THE FINS AS THEY BEGING TO ROTATE.
If it does not start, the motor needs to be replaced. If it is still under full warranty, simply call a repairman.
If this works, turn the dryer off, close the door and try to start it again just by pushing the start button. If it works, it may have been something obstructing the drum from turning. OR, the motor could be going out. It may continue to start on its own for an unkown period of time, a day, a week, and year. But eventually it will go out and will need replaced.
Replacing the motor is a bit involved, but if you want to attempt it I can walk you through it.
There should be a 5 YEARS warranty on the motor, so you might consider a repairman. Make sure they are Bosch certified and there will be no cost to you for the motor. The labor, however, may be up to you and could be expensive.

I'm willing to assist you on whatever you decide.

I have a whirlpool dryer and when you push the start button the motor just humms and the tumbler doesn't spin. i opened the door spun the tumbler and push the start button and closed it quick and it...

You need to test it, but when the drum doesn't spin on its own, that more than likely means the motor is going bad. If you remove the belt from the motor pulley and run the motor with no load on it for a few minutes and then reattach it see if the motor runs this way, you may get a few more runs out of it. You can usually access the belt pulley form the rear compartment of the dryer.

Our DLG0452W dryer will not start occasionally, I then open the door and push in the door switch and rotate the drum and quickly close the door and 1 out 4 times it will keep running. Next time it may be...

The problem is with the centrifugal switch on the dryer motor. This switch connects the start winding of the motor which provides additional torque at startup. Once the dryer is up to speed, the switch disconnects the start winding. If it malfunctions, the dryer will not turn and the motor will hum. By spinning the drum, you are providing enough torque for the start winding to be able to take over and bring the dryer up to speed.

You may be able to correct this by simply lubricating the centrifugal switch which may be sticking. I am not sure if the centrifugal switch is replacable, or if a new motor is necessary if lubricating does not solve your problem.

WILL NOT START WHEN YOU TURN THE START SWITCH, THE MOTOR JUST HUMMS

two possibel reasons for this
1, you have something stuck in the blower moter
look down the lint trap you may just be able to see it
2. your motor is going bad
open the door and hold the door switch with tape or something like it
push the button and try to spin the tumbler while you hear the buzz
if it starts up and the buzz goes away,,,, your motors start wionding is gone and you will need to replace the motor

Must hold start button to run. no heat

disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor
