Question about Compaq Presario Notebook

Mouse scroll strip stopped working!

I recently bought an HP Pavillion dv7-1175nr Notebook that came with Windows Vista. The scrolling pad strip on the laptop stopped working all of a sudden. I've already tried uninstalling the mouse driver and resetting my computer, but any step by step help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for you help.

No, I went into the System Properties > System Device Manager and uninstalled the touchpad. I had to then reset my computer so it could reinstall upon rebooting, but that didn't fix the problem.

Oh, and I just now realized I've posted this in the wrong section. I still hope you'll be able to help me.

I can install an external mouse, but I'd rather get this one working instead.

I'm also under the impression that if I restore my PC to factory condition it wipes my hard drive. What exactly does restoring it to factory condition entail? I'm sure I could do it because I've got recovery disks, but I'm not sure it'll be worth all the trouble.

If I do manage to restore factory settings, how can I tell whether to use a 32-bit driver or a 64-bit driver?

No, the pad was working, just not the scroll bar on it.

Well, I uninstalled my new driver and installed the old one found on the website and that seems to have fixed my problem!

Thanks a lot for your help. I can now scroll happily.

When you say you reset your computer, does that mean you ran the System Recovery software to restore your PC to factory-fresh condition?

Okay, try this.

(a) Assuming your touchpad is still not working, grab an external mouse and plug it in. That will work just as well.
(b) Assuming you already restored your PC to factory condition and it's working, then go to

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3795434&lang=en for Vista 32-bit drivers or

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2100&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3795434&lang=en for Vista 64-bit drivers.

Download and install, and that should get you going. Post back with how it goes.

    (a) I actually thought your touchpad wasn't working, but if it is, you can skip attaching an external mouse.

    (b) When you said you reset your computer, that implied you did a Factory fresh Recovery, but fortunately, you didn't have to. So just use those links above.

    (c) To tell if your PC is 32-bit or 64-bit, just open Welcome Center, and click on "Show More Details" by the top of the window. Another window will open, and there will be an entry marked "System Type". That will say 32 or 64-bit.

HP 2530p EliteBook - touchpad stopped working. Scrolling works except touch scrolling on right side of pad) and right button, but that's all. Wireless mouse works fine.

To access Mouse Properties, select Start - Control Panel - Hardware and Sound -Mouse.

Use Mouse Properties in Windows to customize settings for pointing devices, such as button configuration, click speed, and pointer options.

I have a HP pavillion DV6-1250us Windows vista home premium and i cannot get my mouse to scroll up or down? how do i fix this?

To move the pointer, slide your finger across the TouchPad surface in the direction you want the pointer to go. Use the TouchPad buttons like the corresponding buttons on an external mouse. To scroll up and down using the TouchPad vertical scroll zone (right edge of the touchpad), slide your finger up or down over the lines.

NOTE: If you are using the TouchPad to move the pointer, you must lift your finger off the TouchPad
before moving it to the scroll zone.

Touch pad scroll bar not working

You say it has been restored so I assume that Windows has been re-installed. If so then it is probably using the generic Windows touchpad driver and you need to update to the specific touchpad driver. Go to HP Website and download the touchpad drivers.

HP Pavilion dv9000 scroll on mouse pad has stopped working

I figured it out! The same exact thing happens to me. To fix the problem: When you exit full screen mode, click your mouse on your internet page to make sure you are actively on that page, then hit the space bar twice. I have been using this method for a week now, and it solves the problem every time!! I hope this helps you!
