SOURCE: ACER AL1715ebm LCD MONITOR BAD VGA CABLE

you are in a bad spot, the plug is sealed when molded. maybe ebay has a defective monitor and you could take the cable off it.

Monitors will usually snap apart with a butter knife.

Not Good..
After you've checked that the video cable is connected properly, make sure that all the pins in the video cable plugs are straight and not broken off. Then test on another PC. Make sure your CMOS battery has not gone flat, as some PC's will fail to load basic drivers if CMOS memory is lost. The battery should show no less than 2.5v, if it's marked 3 volts when tested on a multimeter. If you can't test it, just buy a new one at the supermarket or hardware, usually around $4.00.
Next thing to try is your Video Card . If it is an on board one like most are now, there isn't anything you can do but try another card in an expansion slot or fit a new motherboard. At this point, I'm sad to say, you're better taking it to a PC shop where they will have a few things at their disposal to try.

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port on the Right/Rear of the laptop.
Example of a VGA connector (Port), and a VGA Cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_Connector

Scroll down a little for an example of a VGA Cable.

You can use a CRT type of monitor, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

Yes. You can also connect an HDMI cable to it, and HDTV with this capability.

Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.
By factory default settings the display should show on the external VGA monitor.

If not;
There are at least 3 display options;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor.
3) External VGA monitor ONLY

Press, and hold down on the Fn key. At the SAME time tap once on the F5 key. The F5 key is the Display Toggle-Over key.

Shows different color complete blue or red scrren at connection

shake vga cable at different places & observe.........if colours becomes normal or it comes & again it goes...then vga cable is deffective.......either you have to change full vga cable or you have to repair that cable itself................after shaking cable also if no improvement then......hit your monitor lightly on left side or righr side or on top & observe ...........if colours becomes normal or it comes & again it goes...then following is the situation...............after 4 or 5 yrs in some monitors on main board at some soldering joints crack develops....then due to loose contact colour problem comes (1 of the sympton) ...........when we hit that lightly then those loose contacts joins temporarly & again colour comes nomally for some time............so solution is ......monitor main board & crt circuit board should be observed carefully & most of the joints should be re-soldered.......only a good service engineer can do that........even after hitting monitor lightly if there is no improvement then..following is the situation.....................on CRT circuit board ( circuit board that is fixed to tube) ''red green blue'' - video output IC ( some thing like LM2469TA ) will be there - it should be replaced - usually it will be fixed to heat sink ------- before changing IC all the components on CRT circuit board should be checked ( after switching off monitor ).........this problem cannot be solved by user unless user has idea about components( resisitors, transisitors, diodes,...etc) , have soldering iron , multimeter & other tools....................so contact good monitor service engineer .............iam from bangalore - 09986222774 - sathyavijayasarathibabu@ymail.com ( computers, laptop, printers, etc )

My philips 104E 15" monitor is not displaying red colour at all.other two colours are perfectly OK.What could be the cause? is the red gun gone?

Yes, or the RED driver circuits is bad, check soldering joints on the CRT PCB. Simple thing to do is to check the VGA cable connection first, check the video card (reseating the card).

Vga cable config wire colour

Are you asking a question? Do you want to make your own VGA cable?

Unless you are VERY ADEPT at soldering, please don't do this. You can get the color code by removing the molded cap on an existing cable and/or by cutting the end off and testing with a ohm meter. New "d" plugs can be purchased at Radio Shack.

Still, for the relative small amount of money a cable costs, if yours is removable, get a new cable that suits your needs. Failure to properly connect the new plug could be fatal to your monitor.

Display green,red

It should be dry solder joints on the CRT board,the picture tube base is normally dry solder.
Opening the monitor could be tricky as there are two plastic locks which hold the top end of back cover.
