After charging and replacing the battery following directions in the Quick Start Guide, I got the Lens Error message. The camera worked fine for 150 pictures. Has anyone solved this problem?

I have had the same lens error problem with two cameras. One I returned to the store and the other will have to be returned to Nikon for repair. Not what I expected from a Nikon product!!

  • Anonymous Feb 20, 2009

I press the "on" button and the lens goes in and out either once or several times, most of the time it stops and says "lens error", only rarely will it actually work.

I have the same problem... all of a sudden the lens error popped up. Camera may have been dropped some time ago, not sure. But it was working. I live near the service center in El Segundo, they would not honor warranty have only had camera since Thanksgiving of 2008. Automatically said scratches and dings voided the warranty.... they didn't cause the damage. I rejected the repair as it was 87 bucks only paid 129 for the camera. I will never ever buy another Nikon product again!!!

I got my S210 for Christmas & have only used it a few times. I tried to turn it on yesterday & got Lens Error! I don't have a receipt and probabaly never even sent in the warranty paperwork..I never dropped it and it has lived in my purse since Christmas so there is no water damage or shock damage or whatever! I tried the tapping and pulling but no use. Does anyone have any other ideas?

I was taking a picture when I went to turn my Nikon S210 off and the Lens got stuck and I got the lens error Message, They tried to charge me $105 to repair when the whole camera was only $119. ILL NEVER GET A NIKON AGAIN!!

  • tponzo Apr 18, 2009

I got lucky...for a little while. Had a 'lens error' message on a recent trip, then the camera started working again. In the middle of another trip two months later, the message came back with a vengeance and destroyed the camera.

  • lexietennant Apr 27, 2009

I got my camera for christmas, and at first i was really satisfied with the results i was getting from my pictures and everything. Then all of the sudden i started getting the lens error screen come up. It has some scratches and some dings in it and it has been dropped before, but I don't think that could have caused it to do this.

Send it to Nikon with your sales slip or proof of purchase and they will most likely repair it for free. It could be a numbers of things wrong or maybe a defect. So send it in. Forget about trying to fix it yourself. You will fail and be stuck with a broken camera.

There does now seem to be a problem with these particular cameras. i work in a camera shop and have had a number of these returned to me with the same problem you all seem to be having. i have now been told that they are no longer being sold by nikon and you should all return them to place of purchase for a replacement or refund. even if you have no receipt your approximate purchase date can be obtained from the serial number. good luck

I agree simply send it back to the manufacturer or if you purchased an in-store warranty plan take it back to the place of purchase for a new one. I have had the same problem with a S10 and a Casio Exlim.

I have Nikon Coolpix S210 Digital Camera 8.0 Megapixels ISO 2000 and displaying lens error. what I have to dolve this problem .If this could be repair where is the service centre in Chennai

The lens error is due to failure of the lens control system. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck.
Use some air to blow between the lens to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre.
get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the Nikon service as you do not have to run around for spares.

You can approach any Nikon dealers in your city /mall.

My nikon coolpix s210 shows lens error

Hey digi_5

This is a common problem with Nikon and it isn't covered under warranty since Nikon sees it as an error resulting from usage. Apparently, the Coolpix is pretty delicate and any slight bump can cause a lens error.

Some people have tried gently twisting the camera lens back into place or gently tapping/bumping the side of camera.

If neither of those work, I'd say try getting the camera repaired professionally - if it isn't covered by Nikon, they'll charge you heavily. I've used Teleplan Camera Repair before and they're cheap compared to other places.

I've heard that once the camera is fixed, turn it to the Playback mode before turning it off - it apparently helps avoid the problem altogether.

Hi everytime i try to turn on my nikon s210 the lens will not extend and it dislplays a lens error

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras, and it can be caused by dirt, dust, grit, or dropping, among other things.

There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here:

Hi!
It sounds like the lens focus is stuck. If you don't have experience in camera repairs, you should give it for a repair to your local Nikon service center or other camera service center.

S210 Lens Error

Try jiggling the lens. Use compressed air to blow out any grit around the lens barrel. If that doesn't do it, you'll need to get the camera serviced or replaced.

Lens Error!

Hi onikaassing, A very common problem in all the brands "lens error". The remedy is that you have to replace the lens block assembly. Actueally the sled motor start malfunctioning, Contact nikon service centre maybe they have the component level repair facility which can reduce the repair cost. Thanks for using fixya.

The lens error is a known problem with Nikon. Nothing seems to work, tapping, holding the power and shutter down etc. I was told by Nikon to send the camera in for repair, sorry theres nothing else you can do . AJ

LENS ERROR

You are basically right. Its basically as easy to replace as it costs to repair, unfortunately those are your options. You could inquire as to an estimate to make your decision easier, or locate an independent repair shop as they may be cheaper. The camera would need to be taken apart and I only recommend that if you know what your doing.
Thanks,
Lee

My camera worked fine one day, then it was in my purse. When I went to use it the light was on and the screen said there was a lens error. Everytime I try to turn it on now it makes a grinding noise and...

try these:-
  • connect it to pc and on it
  • vaccum the barrel of lens
  • changing mem. card and batt. for 2min.
  • shake it.
  • on and off in different positions
  • hit the part near lens softly with palm (trust me this made mine work)
