The gas tank on my John Deere 115 Lawn Tractor is leaking; probably due to rubbing on the metal bracket the tank sits on. Does anyone know how to remove the gas tank for repair or replace?

I had the same thing happen. I got the tank out, but it wasn't easy. Take out the bolts out that hold the rear end on. Take off the two springs that support the seat. Take out the battery and the battery tray. Take out the 6 bolts that hold the black cowling and the front of the green platform to the frame. This will allow you to lift the seat platform far enough off the rear end to allow the tank to be pulled out through the side. You also have to remove the metal bracket which holds the front of the tank and has caused the tank to leak in the first place. New tank is $56.00 not installed. I used a soldering gun and melted the plastic back together. I think it will hold quit a while. I know this is a little sketchy, but It worked for me.

Thanks Drag Racer. I have put up with a leaking Gas Tank on My John Deere L-118 Lawn tractor for two years. It has gotten so bad I need to change the tank. I wonder how many customers have had to put up with poor workmanship on John Deere Products!

I had a similar problem lasy year.
Try this:
As soon as the machine seems to be stalling, loosen the gas cap.
If the engine continues to run, clean the gas cap vent hole(s).

I have a John deere L-130 lawn tractor that creates a vacum in that gas tank. It stalla ater 20 min. of use. The cap has no vent. Is there another line/filter?

GY20473 gas tank from deere had a cap with a vent. GY21102 tank had a vent hose and was the later version. My guess is that you have the early version of the tank with the newest fuel cap. I recommend a new cap with a vent or drill a 1/32 hole in the top of the cap.
Problem solved
