HP Windows Vista: Slow downloads, "sticking" scrolls

I have just defragmented the disk, but hasn't helped! Typing words is delayed.

I have Norton Anti-virus and have done a scan. My PC is an HP Pavillion 2008. I've done another disk-defragmenting, but I don't feel I should have to every other day!

As for programs added, I may have downloaded something, but don't know which would have caused this.

    Thank you,

    Helene

Virus scan. Computer model number and brand might be helpful too, as would some details about when the problem started and what you have changed on the system recently.

I have windows vista, Cleaned out lots of stuff, Still slow, Freezes, Can't play games

Hard disk maintenance should be carried once a month to make your computer run efficiently. This removes redundant and temporary files, recovers disk space and speed up hard disk access. Disk Cleanup should be done first - Click My Computer - then right click on the C drive then click Properties, then click Disk Cleanup - let it examine the C drive then it will calculate the amount of disk space it will recover, tick all the boxes to recover the maximum disk space and then Click OK and then Yes to perform these actions. If you have a D drive then repeat these steps on this drive too. Next the C drive needs to be Defrag. This process converts fragmented files into continuous files and this speeds up disk access and makes the hard disk not work as hard. Click on Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter - click to highlight the C drive and click Analyse - then click Defragment. When this is completed repeat these steps for the D Drive if you have a D drive. Disk Cleanup and Defrag can take a long time to complete, especially if these tasks have not been for a long time.

RqmailWhen I try to type something , it is like delayed typing. It prints very slow. Also it takes forever to scroll down the page.

Is it this one website that is going slow or are all websites going slow? If just this website is going slow and all the other websites are going at normal speed then its just the website malfunctioning. If all websites are going slow then i will consider a disk cleanup. You do a disk cleanup by clicking on start, clicking on my computer, right clicking on the c drive, clicking on properties and clicking on disk cleanup make sure temporary internet files is click then do the disk cleanup.

My computer can't defrag, it just runs for hours on end.

I haven't used the default defrag prog in windows for a long time but it was always known to take forever if regular defrags had not been performed.

This will be the case for any defrag prog. however there are faster ones out there. Try the following free one and defrag weekly.

Runs slow, i do the basic like defrag, clean disk, delet history. internet files, thing of that nature but my hp is slow like my processor is out dated or my processor is trying to hard to complete simple...

Your computer has only 512MB of RAM.That will just barely run your XP,forget about doing anything else. You need a minimum of 1GB,2GB is even better.Your computer works in RAM not your hard-drive.The hard-drive is for storage, the RAM is for running your programs.

When ;m in my mail it takes about 39 seconds to go to the next message and back again . while i'm typing this there is sometimes acouple sec. delay,

Try to install a faster internet browser like Mozilla instead of using the usual Windows Internet Explorer. If the computer is slow, try to use Disk Defrag and also try to update your anti virus and scan your computer. If there is still a delay, there must be a problem with the internet connection.

Typing delay

Try restarting the machine, and diminishing the amount of programs that you run at the same time. Also, try to install some more RAM, as this will allow your computer to process faster.
