Question about IBM ThinkPad T30 2366 Notebook

1 Answer

I have an IBM T30 that recently had the windows XP reloaded on. New problem, when starting up only get to window that shows shortcuts on desktop. Will not progress past that point. Also noticed the fan does not appear to run. Starts then stops. Don't want to burn anything up like processor so would like to know if fan is thermally triggered or it is designed to run at all times notebook is turned on? Thanks,

Thanks for response. Will pursue running down a new fan. Notice after removing the fan and heat sink that it has 3 wires. 1 black and 2 red. Is this a 2 speed fan?

    thanks again, ted

Designed to run all of the time. Repair or replace fan. CPU may be freezing because of overheat.

Possible ; more likely a controlable fan through motherboard that supports veriable speed fans via voltage control..

Continuous windows xp startup failure

That's usually caused by a bad system driver. Next time it boots to the "start windows normally" page, select 'safe mode'. If the system boots well in safe mode, you can start from there by replacing the drivers from the system board on up until you've solved the problem.

Key board stops responding when windows loads

your mouse freezes; you should only use system restore as a last resort
any virus/spyware you had in the past will come back
turn the computer off(you may have to shut power off pressing on power button)
when you see ibm logo, tap F8 key repeatedly until your hear beeps or a high pitched noise
use option safe mode; use 'most recent config where my settings worked' option in safe mode(use up and down arrow keys to highlght, then press enter)
If that does not work, try another(earlier) restore pt w system restore or install mouse drivers on a cd on another laptop, then
place in cd rom and try to install it on the problem laptop
if this is no good, you should really reinstall windows, back up impt docs, etc.(delete old partition)
that model has a built in restore function by pressing F11 on startup, it will restore your piece to factory condition(along w spyware that comes along w the builtin ibm utility)
I had the same exact laptop, the fan got noisy, so I replaced it w another that was from a good t30, guess what:
"fan error"
Ibm laptops are too problematic to work on
thats why I use dell
if you need more help, msg me or post on here
