Re: Ipaq H 3970 storeage card problem
Your Ipaq doesn't support cards larger then 1gb. I'm not shure that a ROM upgrade will fix this as larger cards require different voltage settings and firmware protocols. From the technical specifications of the h3970 it is stated that the pda will support only 1gb cards due to it's hardware configuration. A reset woun't help you on this. The only thing you could try is a ROM update to a later windows version, win2003 or 2003se, but even this may not solve the problem. If you need more informations please reply.

CH A error indicates that the camera can not communicate with the memory card. Most often this is caused by formatting a memory card in a computer and then putting it into the camera. (Especially on 4 + gb cards). Solution is 1. Reset the camera - then it should work with cards that it worked with in the past. 2. Take the bad memory card and reformat it in your computer to FAT not FAT 32.
It should now work - although it will show capacity to be only 2 gb...
I believe at that point, if you reformat it in camera it will work at the full 4 gb.
But try an firmware upgrade. Maybe the supporting now the 2 GB memory cards.
Why download firmware version 1.07? This firmware version improves memory card compatibility and provides general performance updates. KODAK EASYSHARE C330 Zoom Digital Camera Firmware
For all the camera users whose cameras won't format...they can't accept all the info on a 2 gb memory card... install a 1 gb card...worked like a charm for me! C315 and others were made before the 2 gb card. Only 1 gb cards work in the older cameras.
I'm posting your solution here to remove it from the unsolved problems list.
Solution by Robert:
This problem was finally resolved as a corrupted map file on the SD memory card in the hp ipaq 5550. Solution was to reformat the memory card using fat32 memory format. I used a SD memory card slot on my laptop and right click the drive letter and select format to format the memory card. After that, I reloaded map files to the memory card and all was OK. Note that previously I had loaded map files on the memory card successfully but that was not good enough. A reformat of the memory card was apparently needed. I had also previously tried a hard full reset of the ipaq by pressing and holding the lower two buttons (calendar and itask) while holding in the reset button with the stylus for 5 seconds and resynced my contacts and reloaded the gps software, but this was to no avail. Try the re-format.
did you install the following:
