Wireless ethernet from a wired router?

Is there such thing that I can plug into the back of my rouder (wired) to give off a wireless signal. The router I have now has 2 wired
ethernet connections coming off and I was wondering if there is such thing to plug into another ethernet outlet that gives off wireless connection.

Thanks,
Jeff S.

The item you're looking for is called a wireless access point. There are instructions on the internet for turning a wireless router into a WAP, or you can buy a WAP for about the same money as a wireless router.

I use a product from TP Link, for it's price and flexibility. It can work as a point-to-point bridge or access point, and we can screw a larger antenna onto it for added range.

You can buy a wireless access point to plug into your router. The thing is, you can buy a new router with wireless built in for about the same price. It's up to you to shop and compare.

In either case, you will need to configure the wireless, and create a WEP key to share with the wireless in the computer(s). The new wireless will come with instructions.

If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!

How to connect the rouder to computer

Depends on the router, but you could use an Ethernet cable or if the computer has wireless available & the router has wireless, use that.

I cant get internet from my rouder

Wired or wireless? Shut down the computer. Unplug the NetGear. Unplug the ISP modem, remove battery, if applicable, Check ALL cables and connections, reseat ALL connections. plug in the ISP modem, wait for selftest. Plug in the NetGear, wait for selftest. Reboot the computer. Try connecting with a Ethernet cable if you are trying to connect wirelessly to verify. If that fails, contact your ISP to verify signal comming in. Have a ISP tech come out to analyze the signal.

We had a power outage. Everything is back working expect I cannot connet to the internet. My cable company has reset the modeum and when I plug directly into my computer its fine, however when I plug...

First check to make sure you have all the light on the Dlink router lighting up (i.e. power, internet, ethernet, ect). Weather the lights are good or not, check your cables and make sure they are secure. If all the light are proper, then unplug the router for a few seconds then plug it back in. Once all the lights are on try again. If you are using wireless, plug in wired (ethernet cable) to the router. Depending on your OS and settings, you should see in the lower right hand corner a computer icon. If this has a red X on it, the router is not providing a signal to the computer. If everything looks good wired, try the internet again.

If the lights are not correct on the router and checking the cables did not fix the issue, you most likely have a problem with the router its self.

I hope this helps, if not comeback with more information (i.e. what lights are on the router, the IP address the router is giving the computer, wired works but wireless does not, the more information the better).

I can't get online to google or anything because the laptop will not come out of the offline.

If you are on a wireless network with a router, power cycle all your equipment to get it back in sync with each other.

1. Turn off the power to your router( 1st) , your modem (2nd) and pc (3rd). in this order. Wait a few min.

2. Take out the ethernet cable from the router (until your modem reacquires a signal to the internet) and if the pc is connected to the router unplug the Ethernet cable from the back of the pc.

3. Turn on the power to your router wait for all the lights to come back up. Then turn on your modem and wait for all the lights to come back up and reacquire a signal. Once all the lights are on the modem, plug the ethernet cable back into the Internet jack of your router.

4. Turn on your laptop. After Windows loads and you get to your desktop, plug the Ethernet cable in to the back of the pc( if you connect wired) or try to connect to your wireless network.

5. Then open your browser and type in this web address:

http://www.purple.com

if a purple page comes up-You are connected to the Internet.

Have you tried to reset router. It has to be done in order.
1. unplug router
2. unplug modem
3. shut down computer and restart after waiting 1 min
4. after restarting computer plug power back into modem and wait for all the lights to start blinking
5. after the modem is working plug power back to router and plug in the computer with ethernet cable and make sure you have internet,
6. try to link up with wireless,
If this does not work you will have to setup the router for wireless if it is att wireless you will have to call them to give you the password to set it up.

My router is not obtaining an ip address through WAN port. I use my rouders WAN MAC Address to identify my rouder to my ISP provider. I can see this MAc address under Internet Connection on the rouder...

Try using the MAC address of the ethernet adapter and clone it to your router. Your ISP might be recognizing the MAC address of the LAN card of the computer.

To get the mac address of the computer go to the command prompt and type ipconfig/all.

You may also need to contact your ISP to clear arp in their end, so that they will detect that you have a router. I hope this helps!

Linksys rouder suddenly stoped alowing other computers net access

I would recommend upgrading the router firmware, if you have not done this already.

Download the firmware file from the Linksys website:
http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/

Typically, the upgrade is done by pointing your web browser at the IP address of the Linksys router. Linksys should provide specific instructions at the site above.

Use Netgear WGR614 as an access point

Right, it won't work. The 614 doesn't have the software to make it into a BRIDGE or AP CLIENT. It can only be made into an Access Point, meaning it needs a wired connection INTO it.

A TP-Link http://www.tp-link.com/products/product_spe.asp?id=36 WA501G costs under $40 and gives you the ability to go from wireless to wired. It takes about 15 minutes to set up, and will plug into your DVR's ethernet port to extend your wireless network. It's programmed by setting the mode, AP, CLIENT, BRIDGE, etc. We use them in areas where we want to extend a wireless signal for distances like across parking lots, but it also will work across a room or two.

There are also wired ethernet extenders that use house wiring like the Netgear XE-102, about $80, that look like two wall transformers with ethernet jacks. You plug one into the router/switch and the other into the DVR.

I have no computer or cable and need to set up internet on my PS3

??? A router will NOT replace your modem; the router won't work without the modem. If you're going to give advice, please make sure it is somewhat correct.

Okay. So first you need the telephone cord to go from the phone jack into the DSL port on your modem. Then you need the Ethernet cable that came with your modem (looks like a phone cord but much bigger) to go from the ethernet port in the back of the modem into the wan or internet port on the router. Verify that the DSL and internet lights are on on the modem.

For the rest of the setup, watch this . It will walk you step by step in connecting your PS3 to the wireless internet. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.
