I have a 2007 Dell desktop with vista, worked fine when I got it, last summer it quit playing videos, kept asking to download latest version of adobe flash, which I did, uninstalled all adobe products, reinstalled latest flash 10, starts to download, I think it downloads but won't install, have had numerous peole send comments, nothing works, would like to start from scratch with this problem and try and solve it, I am a senior citizen, and have a little knowledge, very little!!, Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
Do you have Vista 64-bit? You don't say in your post.
If so, and you want to use Flash Player, you'll have to use the Internet Explorer 32-bit version, as opposed to the IE 64-bit. At present, Adobe Flash Player doesn't have a 64-bit version (or so says the Adobe website.) Just type in "Internet Explorer" in the Search box of the Start Menu, and you'll notice two versions. Use the one that doesn't say 64-bit.
If you're using Vista 32-bit, just ignore this post.
This problem is most likely related to a Windows Vista permissions issue. Because Vista has security features to prevent scumbag spammers and spyware from infesting your computer, programs will not automatically install themselves. I have had success by logging into Vista as an administrator, then installing whatever programs I wanted, then logging back in under my normal usage account. Sometimes simply being in the administrator account is not enough, but I hope this gets you in the right direction.
