Question about Samsung HL-T6187S Television

Picture went out on a samsung hl-t6187s

My samsung hl-t6187s is 16 monthsold. While playing WII the picture went dark then out. I unplugged the TV for half an hour and plugged it back in but still no picture. This set has LED lamps that are supposed to last the life of the TV. When I turn it on it looks at first like it wants to light up but then goes dark. Is this common with Samsung? I hope not since I have four other friend that bought this set with my recommendation.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, could be anything. Normally, the front panel LED should blink or at least show sign that power is getting inside. Additionally, blinking LEDs would often indicate that the unit has gone into protective mode and the sequence/count of blinks would indicate an error code pointing to probable area of fault. A completely dead or no indicator could possibly be a power supply issue.

This of course would require opening the unit, perform voltage measurements, determine faulty component and subsequent part(s) replacement. Further, a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron would be required. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

If it is under warranty contact samsung and get it repaired or replaced.
Its good to contact samsung first other than performing any troubleshooting.
Also if you try to get it repair yourself you may lose the warranty..

The problem you are describing seems to be a Ballast issue... Does your TV make a clicking noise when the power is pressed? A single "strong" click, or multipple "weak" clicks?

If you would like to replace the ballst in Your HL-S or HL-T series TV (Which includes your HL-S5687W) you can purchase it at the link below for only $66 bux:

http://www.discount-merchant.com/product-p/ballastbp47-00037a_bp47-00033a.htm

Step by step detailed installation guide is available here:

When the TV went out, did you hear a whining or screetching noise? The HL-S and HL-T series lamp based projection sets are notorious for failing of the colorwheel... Colorwheel can be found at the below link for $79.99

http://www.discount-merchant.com/Samsung-Replacement-Color-Wheel-HLS-HLT-Series- p/samsungcolor_wheel_bp96-01579a.htm

Installation guide can be found here:

I hope this helps... i don't see anything else that might be wrong with your TV other than the Lamp, ColorWheel, or Ballast...

Please let me know the results.. It's good information for all of us here.............

Thanks.............

I think it is time for New Lamp in your TV as existing lamp (bulb) has reached at an end of working hours.

Does your set have a warranty? 2 years? 3 years?

I would contact the dealer or samsung for repair service if it is still under the warranty.

My samsung tv model hl-t6187s has no red

The red LED chip has burned out. Samsung purposely overdrives the red LED to make the colors look better and the red one usually fails from heat.

More than likely your red led is bad I have this model and I have had to replace it twice in the last four years the part is available online and is fairly easy and quick to replace if you are handy with a screwdriver the actual procedure is available in a video on YouTube for replacing it.

Check with Samsung, your model falls under a class action settlement related to power supply issues that your TV may be experiencing. Here is a link to more information about this settlement.

If you can get at the controls again----undo or unsolder the micro switch for volume down! Remove it and see if set works.

A no brainer in that if that switch is bad and vol down still displays nothing else would work
