There were two versions of the CE6 system In one you had to turn the WiFi on by clicking on the WiFi power icon. This bought up a small window That said "Power ON" You had to click on that "Power On" button to turn the WiFi Power ON. That button turned to "Power OFF" This meant that your power was on, waiting to be turned off. In the later version that Power button was turned on automatically when you booted the machine up. Try clicking on the WiFi button and then click on Power On

System will not boot. Keep getting the loading os image message. Been on the screen for over 2 hours.

Flip it over on it's back and find a small hole 1in diagnally from the lower right corner. Put a tooth pick in the hole and press gently an hold for about ten seconds while connected to the AC power.

For other information see below.

It is looking for a password (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computer icon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOT connected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up, then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name of your WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another window opens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is provided automatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "Network Key", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This "KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your server computer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on it's back and using a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally from the right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everything including the WiFi RT28701 driver.

sometimes this driver gets confused. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing

Additional Information

When I try to sign on with the red X showing, I get "The page cannot be displayed If I then double click on the icon down in the right corner I elucidated above, RT28701 opens up to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) with all zeros in the IP address field, and Subnet Mask, with no entries in the default gateway. That is a clue to me that the auto sign on has not found a viable network or needs something else. If I then click on Wireless Information tab, The list of available networks appear in the box. The machine keeps trying to associate my previous entered name site with my prefered site and tells me the signal is good, but it cannot link up. This is a signal to me that it has lost my Network Key or that the software has failed or both. I then click on advance and delete my prefered network and hit OK, this will force the software to ask me for my network again, and notice that the prefered is missing. I click on the name of my network again and then hit connect., then the Wireless Network properties window opens up and I can insert my Network Key again after I uncheck the "The key is provided automatically" box. I enter the key and hit the OK button. I still do not get a connection, so I reboot the machine, and wait for about 30 seconds and the machine synchs up because the little RED X under the icon has disappeared. Now the machine will hook to the internet as long as I want to, but sometimes when I turn the machine on it will not synch, so I go through the above sequence again. The secret is once you have entered your key and ask for the machine to synch up you have to reboot. Why? I do not exactly know, but I suspect that the WiFi driver looses it

I can't get my wifi to work on my netbook

You may not be allowing the the auto connecting feature enough time to connect up. Inoticed that the machine takes abot 55 seconds to connect, if I am over 50 ft. from the route, and about 30 seconds when I am 5 feet away. Also I noticed that if I am having problems connecting where the machine just does not want to connect up, I double click on the little icon that appears in the left lower bar that looks like a small computer with two radiating arcs off to the side and a red X under it. This opens a RT28701 box with 3 tabs. select Wireless Information, click on Advance, see if your router name is in the box as the perferred network. If it is delete and reboot your machine and it will be replaced. Try again to switch on your WIFI connection by double clicking on the WIFI power button and the click on the Power On button and wait.

My laptop is connected to the internet but everytime i try to go online it gives an error message of: the internet explorer has stopped working, window is checking to see if it can solve it. whats wrong...

How are you connected to the internet? Sometimes when you're connected to the internet via wifi, the icon can show that you have a strong signal and that you're connected when you actually aren't. Optimum wifi does this often. Turn off your wifi, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Laptop turns on then freezes

Shut it off, pull the battery out. Unplug all devices that you might have plugged into the laptop (anything USB, cards, etc).
With the battery OUT, and the power cord unplugged, hold down the power-on button for about 20-30 seconds. Reinstall the battery and/or power cord and then boot the machine into safe mode (hit "f8" white booting on windows operating systems to get into the safe mode menu). Try booting safe mode NO networking (top choice). Still locks up?
Possible issues are
1) Bad or failing HD
2) Failing RAM
3) Virus or drive issues.

Booting into safe mode should allow you to run a virus scan, then clean and defrag the HD and check for resource conflicts or "flags" for issues (control panel, administrative tools, browse until you find "Event Viewer" and click each icon in the drop down field on the left and read the "errors" in red on the right).

We'll need your OS and laptop model number as well as things like wireless devices or anything custom you've done or have installed.

Wifi card not working???

Your wireless card is not picking up your wireless router, the fault could be that your wireless card did not get a IP address from the router and therefore won't allow the laptop to get into the Internet. Two things to try, if the wireless icon is on the task bar with a red X on the icon then right click on the icon and click on Repair (this will force the wireless router to issue the wireless card with a new IP address). If you don't have an Icon then go to Control Panel - Network Connections and right click on the wireless connection and then click Repair. If this dosen't work then power off your wireless router wait for 30 secs. then power up the wireless router and the reboot your laptop. Get back to me if you still have problems with all error messages.

Hi there
You may have hit the WiFi activate button, it should be above the keyboard on the left hand side, if it still won't connect try resetting the modem by unplugging power from it for 30 seconds and power it on again, wait a minute for the modem to reset and try connect again

Good luck and kind regards

I don't know how to activate Wifi in my pc aspire 5720Z.. Would you please help me

There is usually either a button or a slide switch that controls if the wifi is on or not. It is marked with an icon that looks like a tower with two curved bars coming out of each side. Be sure that switch is set to "on". Secondly, you will see a small icon in your system tray (bottom right hand side of your screen) that looks like two little computer monitors. You need to click on that and have it search for wireless networks. Once you find your wireless router simply click on that router and click connect.

Problems booting up. it cycles for up to 30 mins

Dear cobbsl00,

Whenever a system takes up to 30 minutes to boot, you may have a problem with the boot loader files, the Master Boot Record or the NT load files. If you are able to boot, immediately try to salvage any important data before it gets lost for good. Then try reloading your OS from scratch,

Good luck!
