Question about Projection Televisions

2 Answers

I have Verizon FIOS with the universal remote that came with the FIOS setup. My TV is a DYNEX. Most of the time it (FIOS) works OK. When it IS working, the sequence of events (as seen on the TV) is as follows:"HDMI", "unsupported format", picture comes on. When it is NOT working, the first two events are the same but the picture does not come on. Sometimes, at that point, if I hit the power OFF on the remote, I see the picture for a fraction of a second just before everything shuts down. So far, I have tried turning the power OFF/ON on the power strip that feeds both the FIOS head box and the TV and just about every combination of Button sequences on the remote before, during & after using the power ON button on the remote. Eventually, everything works - that is, if you fiddle long enough anything works. It looks like some sort of timing problem to me.

    Thanks for your quick response.

I have 2 Dynex LCD TVs - a 19" and a 37". They are in different places in the house and are fed by different head boxes. neither have 2 HDMI inputs. They both have the problem. I don't think that the cables from the head boxs are the source. It looks to me as if either the TV or the head box is turning on before some operation is completed. Do you think that changing the TV code on the remote could help? DYNEX codes are not listed on the Verizo web site.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, to my knowledge, the TV will display "not supported signal" when a non HD channel is tuned into. What happens is the Verizon FIOS will try to uo-convert the non HD channel to 1080i. In some instances the up-convert will not be able to perform and therefore nothing would be displayed on the Dynex.

Offhand, pls try:

  • Turn on TV and STB
  • Turn off STB
  • Hit Select on front of STB
  • Hit Menu on front of STB
Note: if you have the DVR, this won't work while it's actively recording something. BTW, I don't yet have the IMG - I have the old IPG, so getting to this menu is different for me - I'm basing the directions, above, off of postings others have put out there. Once in that menu, you'll be able to change settings. Look for one called SD Override. This is essentially how your box will send out your SD channels. Try setting it to 480i and see if that works.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Try switching the HDMI cable to a different HDMI channel input at the back of TV, you will also need to change input with the remote, depending on the TV model.

If you have a different HDMI cable, test also a replacement cable, or buy a better cable, often this kind of problem is cable related.

Tv goes off, then comes on, and volume goes to max

OMG! Verizon Fios at it again with changing boxes! Well let me tell you if you do not loose signal on a DVD using these same inputs ITS NOT YOUR TV!

Whats going on is further into Verizon system you loosing the signal from the VDSL slam outside in the pill box. This thing will need to be replaced and they are going to blame your TV until you just give up and buy a new TV only to figure out its not your TV.

1. Call them back
2. tell them to check there network
3. if that dont work tell them to check it again
4. if you have HDMI use that instead of the scart connections.

I hope you have luck with Verizon Fios there internet rules but there TV service is sub par!

Thanks

Philips 50" flat screen - Closed captioning won't turn off

on my magnavox it was the verizon fios remote that enabled it by accident (it is tuned to control the tv) however it was a cc button represented by the * on the remote that i had to select to change the cc. this didn't make it go away so i just pressed buttons i used the "Aspect" button represented by the # it changed the ratio and the message went away. I usually only use the fios remote to turn the tv on and off but this must be some whacky override that comes from the fios remote.

When I turn the TV on it turns itself off

If you hold the menu and input buttons on the front of the tv down at the same time for approx. 5-10 seconds, the tv will give a blink code. It will blink some # of times...pause and then repeat. This will tell a servicer why the set is going into shutdown. Repairing the problem will most likely have to be dont by a professional.(unless you are very mechanical and have good soldering skills)

Do we have to manually set the pix set key for every station/show we watch? We loose scrolling writing at the top and bottom of the screen on my dad's new 32" lcd tv bought at Wal-mart. When we set...

Thanks for the offer but we cannot afford to pay additional money for something the Factory support service Should provide.

From what we have heard through the Verizon installer, our SANYO LCD TV probably does NOT have a Automatic picture adjust system. That would most likely be the reason for the maunual button on the remote control. The troublle is that with the FIOS service, you do NOT use the TV's remote control. That leaves to switching back and forth between two different remotes wiich can be vary confusing for someone that is not 88 years old.

It is bad enough that you have to remember which channels you have to go to to receive HD programming signals. If I were making a TV set, and or running a TV network/ cable service, I would transmit both HD and regular signals on the same channel number and let the TV and or the decoder box figure out if my set could display High Definition. Isn't that what we spend lots of money buying equipment and paying each month for service?

If anyone out there knows if the SANYO 32 inch LCD TV sold at Wal-Mart automatically adjust to the picute format, (PIX 1-4) we sure ould like to hear from you.

I am trying to program fios set top box remote control and need the code for my Polaroid TV.

I own a One-for-All universal remote, and my booklet says the setup code for a Polaroid TV ( without a built-in VCR or DVD) is 0765. I can not be sure, if this number will work with your remote, but it is worth a try.

It ended up being the Verizon Fios box. We recycled it and the picture stopped rolling. Thank you for being here to help. If I have any future questions, I'll definitely use your site.
