Question about MTV Games Rock Band for PlayStation 2

Not enough controller slots for "Rock Band 2" on Playstation 2

So I'm one of the few remaining folks still using a Playstation 2. This past weekend, I bought Rock Band 2 for it. I'd already been playing Guitar Hero World Tour on it for a month, so I already had all four working instruments: a USB mic (Logitech), a wireless USB drum set (Rock Band 2) and two wireless guitars (Guitar Hero III). All four are reverse compatible between R.B.2 and G.H.W.T.... that's not the issue.

Although R.B.2 is better than G.H.W.T. in just about every way, the one lame thing about it is that in order to set things up for the vocalist, it requires that you either a) have a microphone with buttons on it or b) plug in a dual shock controller. Since I couldn't find the mic with buttons on it (none of the Gamestops nor Best Buys seem to be carrying them for PS these days), I resorted to plugging in my old dual shock controller. The mic works fine, but now I'm short a controller slot. The PS2 only has two. And both of my wireless guitars require controller slots as well. So anytime I wanna use my mic, I don't have enough slots for someone to play guitar *and* bass. Pretty lame, huh? Any suggestions? I could buy a USB hub, but USB slots aren't my problem; the PS2 has two and that's all I need for my drum set and mic. Do they make some sort of adapter that would allow me to plug the dual shock controller into a USB port? Or do they make USB wireless guitars or what? Help!

    Hey Michael -

Thanks for helping with this! One of those might do the trick. I'm leaning towards the former product, just because a) the latter's more expensive and b) buying a third guitar sorta feels like overkill. So the USB adapter sounds more appealing. However, is there any way to be sure that it'll work on a PS2? Because apparently, its intended purpose is to enable you to "use your Playstation 2 Controllers on your Personal Computer with this USB Adapter." It also mentions an included disk of drivers, which obvsiouly woulnd't be install-able on a PS2. So those are my only concerns. I poked around online a bit, hoping to
find evidence of someone using this for a PS2, rather than a PC. But I
wasn't able to find any. You?

I suppose $15 is probably doable, even if I'm just rolling the dice. I'm
just trying hard to spend as little money as possible on my PS2 set-up, cuz I doubt they'll even make future RB and/or GJ games for that system.

Either way, thanks for all your efforts, Michael. Much appreciated.

Ok, so I finally got all four instruments working today. I went to GameStop, looking to buy the 2-Port USB controller converter. They didn't have it, but instead, the sales guy suggested I get a used PS2 Multitap for $10. It totally did the trick and frankly, I'm sorta surprised I'd forgotten that such a thing existed. It was pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

Anyway, thanks for your help, Michael. Take care.

I just purchased rock band track pack volume 2 and we only have guitar controllers but they do not seem to work, and everytime we hit a button it says we need to plug in a microphone? We have other rock...

You need to buy and plug in one of the official Rock Band microphones that is available for your console to use that track pack if you aren't on Wii. If you are on Wii, don't use the Wii Remote to continue past the main menu. Use the guitar controller.

How to get Rock Band to work no the ps2

Hi! Here are the tips to get Rock Band work on the ps2: Clean the disc well. Run another disc in the PS2 for about 5 minutes, then try the Rock Band disc. Plug in a standard controller, navigate to the browser screen, and if the PS2 reads the disc, simply select it with the controller. Insert a copy of Rock Band Track Pack (PS2) and let it run until it gets to the Harmonix screen. Quickly switch this disc for the Rock Band disc, and reset the console. Insert the disc so that the "K" in Rock Band on is pointed at roughly 6 O'clock. If the disc isn't read, then open your PS2 and rotate the disc one hour to the right. Repeat this until it is working or until it is back at 6 O'clock. Be careful with your Rock Band disc as some of them barely work to start with, and you don't want to damage it more. Save your receipt because if it doesn't work at all you will want to return it. Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance. Thanks Rylee

Playstation 2 Rock band disc error and no power in usb ports

There is a piece dust on the CD reader eye. there is two ways to fix this. 1. bye a disk cleaner any wal-mart or 2. take the unit apart. and clean the tiny glass laser eye your self using a cotton swab and alcohol. WARNING! never take any thing apart while it is plugged in. O TRY PLAYING A DVD IN IT AND SEE IF IT WORKS OR NOT IF NOT THEN YOU KNOW ITS DUST ON THE LASER LENS.
