Cannot connect to the remote server using Dreamweaver
I contacted you on 23rd December and below is a transcript of some of the on-line conversation.......
Hi. I am machadojr_fe and I will be assisting you with your problem. machadojr_fe says: hello kb64uk says: Hello, thank you machadojr_fe says: can you please describe the problem in detail for me kb64uk says: I am the webmaster for a website (www.97squadronassociation.co.uk). The host site is dedicated-domains. Since August I have been unable to connect to the remote site in order to update the website. kb64uk says: When I attempt to do so I get a dialogue box saying ''An ftp error occurred-cannot make remote connection to host. The remote host cannot be found'' kb64uk says: I have contacted dedicated domains and they say there is no problem from their end of things Here is the solution given on 23rd Dec........
ok I've found the problem it seems that sky ISP's lock the username and password to prevent you from swapping routers. kb64uk says: Ok. Sounds encouraging! machadojr_fe says: You are going to need to call them and tell them you need your router to forward port 21 as they will not give the username and password. machadojr_fe says: after you have gotten the port forwarded you will be able to connect to the ftp service kb64uk says: Right, that's great. Once I have done that, should I type the ftp address into the browser on the internet explorer? machadojr_fe says: once you have done that you should be able to upload in dreamweaver if you are not able to disable the firewall and you will be. kb64uk says: Ok, I will call sky tomorrow. Thank you very much I contacted Sky and this is their response.............
Sorry for the delay in replying to your message.
We do not currently provide web space or web hosting with our Sky Broadband packages.
The Sky Broadband blocks 4 ports to the internet, to enable functionality for Sky Broadband to work correctly. These ports are 25, 80, 8080 and 3128, we are unable to provide any assistants with portfrowarding.
So, the problem is not resolved.......have you any other suggestions?

Macromedia Dreamweaver for the first time, or on a new site for the first time, you need to define the Web site so that Dreamweaver can work with it. This process includes naming the site, placing the local files on a directory on your hard drive, and showing Dreamweaver where those files will be published on the Web. Follow these easy instructions to define a new Web site for Dreamweaver .
First, you should go to the "Site" menu and choose "Manage Sites".
As you can see from the image below, this will open a dialog window. Choose "New Site" from the "New" button.
