You could have a heat problem. Check the fan and heatsink and remove all dust from the fan and heatsink.

SOURCE: No sound in my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop

If the issue is no sound after reinstallation of Windows, then your issue is most likely a driver issue. Many items in the system will function with native windows drivers but the audio on a I6400 is not one of them. Installation of drivers in the correct order is critical to Dell portables functioning correctly. Correct driver order is:

Notebook System Software.
Chipset Utility
Video Driver
Audio Driver
Modem Driver
Network Driver
Wireless Driver
Touchpad Driver
Quickset Utility

All other applications and drivers (MS Office, Printer driver etc)

This system is also equipped with Media Direct capability. For Media Direct to function, the system's HDD must be prepared using the Media Direct installation CD, then WIndows installed, then the Media Direct application. If you have no plans to use media direct, this can be skipped (Most people do)

Dell Inspiron 6400 throws up DIMM A socket fault after running ok for 1-2 hours

It seems as if this is 1 of 2 things. Either a sick of RAM, after heating up, fails, or the actual socket itself is bad. If it's the RAM, it's cheap, buy a new stick, if it's the socket itself, you would have to have Dell fix it, for a steep price, or use the remaining sockets with larger sticks of RAM if possible.

With 512MB RAM in slot1, laptop is working fine, but when I tried to install other 512 ram in slot 2, there were no display and numlock and caplock led start blinking. Both RAM are originally shipped with...

umm .. Are both RAM memory modules the same type? You can fit different types of RAM to a computer but they may not be compatible together. Check that both modules are the same.

Other than that, it sounds as if the problem may be slot 2. This would suggest that either the RAM isn't being correctly engaged or the slot is faulty.

Switch off the computer. Put a memory module into slot 2 to see if the computer works. Try it with both memory modules using slot 2. If neither memory module works in slot 2 this indicates a fault - motherboard probably.

If one memory module works in slot 2 - but not the other module - this tends to indicate a mismatch between the RAM modules and they are not compatible together.

Yes you can. Your best is to use the largest and best ram in the number one slot. I would remove ALL the ram and start with the 2 gig in the first slot - then add others until you get the error message - remove that one and keep the rest.

Inspiron 6400 doesn't start.

On Flash Flash indicates that no RAM memory is being detected. So remove both RAM modules, insert 1 at a 30 deg angle till the gold contacts cannot be seen, then lock it in place, and see if the RAM is detected. Test both modules in both slots, see if system will boot with at least one. If no change, try a new RAM module, if still no change, replace the motherboard

I need more ram to run photoshop

There isn't anything you can do. The amount of ram that a computer can hold or process is dictated by the motherboard that the manufacturer installed
