Open Question

Can transmit but not recieve

I have a uniden pc78xl 40 channel cb, my antenna is a 48 in firestick tunable antenna that is mounted to a bare meteal section of my roof basket. then i have a 10 gauge fine copper stranded wire only about 10 in grounding the antenna base to the chasis, with an 18 ft coax cable. i have really good swr readings on all channels but i cannot recieve anything. my signal strength according to the meter on the cb is very weak. i have adjusted all the settings on the cb(squelch,rf gain) but nothing. whats wrong?

SOURCE: MyCB radio wont broad cast

One of two things is wrong---either a problem in the radio or a problem with the Microphone----

Do you know how to open the mic plug and check the wires there?

Most of the time it is a problem with the mic cord---

Let me know if you need wiring diagram of the Mic--I can provide that---almost any 4 wire mic can be used to replace the stock one---

Original mic was 1 k impedance---but a 500 ohm mic will work and make the audio even louder.

Also have someone check the SWR or match on the antenna system--easy to do.

I am here to help---if this helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

SOURCE: I have a Uniden PRO510XL radio and a 48" single

then the antenna needs to be moved. antennas have to have a ground plane to get correct swr below 3... or there may be a bad ground. try moving antenna @ different angles to see if it changes swr's or even opening the door away or closer to the body will make it change. also check the insulator it should be on top. call if you need help

Power meter on my dx-979 barely moves off of 0 when transmitting the swr meter also hovers around 1.0 no matter what channel...not used to seeing such low swr readings and almost nothing on the power...

I would check the radio with an external meter to see if it is the transmitter or the Meter in the radio. If it is the meter in the radio it could have a bad detection Diode or just oout of adjustment or even a bad calibration pot. other wise start looking to fix your transmitter like finals or other similar problem.

Well, some meters are set different than others,to see what is going on,you need a good WATT-SWR meter, but that is not a bad reading of SWR, you can get one at Radio Shack. You can not go by the meter that is on the radio,it,s probably not set right. hope this helps..

Uniden pc78elite antenna light

What kind of antenna is it? Have you checked your standing wave? To do this process you will need a field strenth or a SWR meter to do it,would be cheaper to have it checked at Radio Shack or you can buy one,and do it yourself. Some radio antenna light come on when transmitting,....hope this helps....

I can't xmit or receive on CB channels: Wx channels come in OK. I had a bad WalMart Special mobile antenna which shorted out because of corrosion. Now have a Diesel 15 inch mobile with tunable SWR tip....

If try another mic and see if problem is still
there then you have half of the problem, the
TX an RX all go through the mic if mic good
you will have to go inside of the unit.
Good Luck
