Question about Rinnai RHFE-431FAIII 16,700 BTU Direct Vent Furnace Energy Saver Heater - Natural Gas

1 Answer

Need to move the unit by dismantling

How do you remove the casing on a Rinnai ENERGY SAVER 551FT
gas heater with small direct rear flue, this is a unit that uses lpg bottled gas. We just need to relocate it further along the same outside wall. i don't want to force the cover off but see no other way of releasing the unit from the flue which goes through the wall to the outside. Help would be very much appreciated. thank you. Alex

Thanks for the info. I have found that the cabinet cover of the heater has screws on the sides and top but i only just realised that there are screws up from the bottom which could only be positioned when the cabinet was made. i feel that the remedy must be to remove the small flue from outside and disconnect the gas connection which should enable simple removal of the heater fro om its current position. thanks again for trying to help. Alex

Remove the two screws on the side trim. Remove the two top screws from the filter panel. Reach behind the heater and pull the sock down on the vent pipe. unclip the two clamps holding the vent pipe together. Remove the plastic elbow off of the vent termination. Slide the heater to the left to slide the vent pipe off of the vent termination. Remove the gas line after shutting the gas off.

My gas wall heater only stay lit for about 5mins. Easy to restart.

First thing to try is to check the flue to see if it is blocked or even partially blocked. This type of flue assembly exhausts burnt gases from the heater and another section draws fresh air in to the heater to be mixed and burnt with the gas.
the centre of the flue is the exhaust section and the outer section of the flue is the fresh air intake section.
removing the flue cowl will allow a visual inspection of the flue for any blockages.
If the flue is a long run then a plumber may need to be called to disassemble the flue for a closer inspection.

My Rinnai 1004F giving me error code 99

This fusible link may be open. Try jumpering the two leads and see if the unit operates. If it does replace the fusible link. Do not operate the unit without the fusible link for an extended period. It is a safety device and is there for a reason. Hope this helps.

I have a rinnai 1001ft heater but i need the flue is there enyone that has one please

You should be able to get the flue kit from any Rinnai resellers.

There are many different flueing options existing for Rinnai Energysaver depending on where you wish to install it (by a licensed gas fitter only of course).

Depending on what flue kit you need for your own situation you could be looking anywhere between $150 to $800 (AUD).

Go on their website for a list of resellers.

Can you vent the Rinnai 551F vertically through ceiling?

This unit can be vented through the roof but requires a specialized flue system-do not use an existing flue connection. Call a contractor - have them check and see if the unit can be modified to a vertical flue- it will require the existing piping to be replaced--Not a job for a do-it yourselfer

Rinnai 431 wont start

You could have something as simple as a blocked flue pipe. Check outside and make sure the pipe is clear of ice or snow. Check the circulating fan and filter for lint. Be sure the lovers on the front of the stove are open and clean of lint.

Replacing a Rinnai 403 FT

gday nelson. if you check out the specs on the rinnai range you will find another one that will go straight in. if you buy new it will come with a new flue kit. as far as recomended installation heights most of them are quite flexible. i installed a second hand 403ft yesterday with the centre of the flue at 140mm from the floor. recomended in the instructions were 240mm. a mate gave me the heater and i just had to buy a flue kit as the old one was already too short. if you messure your flue from inside and send me the specs i can give you a more difinitive answer.

Rinnai 551FT (I couldnt see it on list!)

Try vacuum cleaning the filter as the heater shuts down to protect itself from over-temperature. NB-turn off the heater before doing it. And yes, you add water to the tray (...carefully) - this increases the apparent heat. Peter
